Life After Robert Donwey Jr. Hangs Up His Repulsors. Kevin Feige Says A New Actor Will Continue On Similar To James Bond

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 10:32 AM PDT

Badass Digest talked to Feige at CinemaCon about something I've been thinking about for quite some time. Robert Downey Jr. (47) is not going to play Iron Man forever. The question is, how much longer? With the MCU set up for all intents and purposes as a cinematic comic book universe, the stories will just continue on unless there's a New 52 wholesale reboot. Unlike their comic book counterparts, the actors that suit up in superhero movies age [some very badly]. And while most of the Marvel heroes are young, RDJ is no spring chicken and will likely be the first actor {RDJ or Samuel L. Jackson] who will say goodbye to his franchise. Here's what Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said when he was presented with this very dilemma. FEIGE: "I think Bond is a good example. Let's put

This week, Universal Pictures participated in CinemaCon for the first time in a couple years. They premiered new footage from nine of their upcoming films, including the Tom Cruise-starrer science fiction film Oblivion and the Dark Horse Comics adaptation of R.I.P.D. (which stars Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges). Collider was present at the event, and below is their take on the new footage shown for the two films. For their coverage on other movies (such as Ted, Snow White & The Huntsman and The Bourne Legacy), click the link below. Even though production has just begun on Joseph Kosinski's Oblivion, Universal showed footage from the first few days of filming! In the brief snippets of footage we saw Tom Cruise commanding a ship, Morgan Freeman looking badass with a cool looking beard, and the beginnings of an action sequence. For those unfamiliar with the film, Cruise plays a veteran soldier who's banished

Public Enemy, Steppenwolf, the Stone Roses, Common, Halford, H.I.M., Gary Numan, Fear Factory... all of them and hundreds of other artists have songs about "resurrection." None of them, however, can actually boast experiencing a resurrection (of sorts) like TLC are foreshadowing.

If the band are to be believed, they'll be staging an actual resurrection (at least digitally) of late member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes. And undead R&B stars that aren't the Weeknd make for great hooks, so if you want to read more about Lopes or any other artists who made music history this week just launch the gallery below.

Iron Man Won't Get a Reboot When Robert Downey Jr. Leaves

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 10:41 AM PDT

Iron Man won't be rebooted if Robert Downey Jr. leaves the franchise

With Iron Man 3 about to start principal photography in a few weeks, it seems strange to imagine anyone else besides Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently said that, in the event Robert Downey Jr. leaves the franchise, it will not be rebooted. Here's what the executive had to say, likening the Iron Man series to James Bond.

"I think Bond is a good example. Let's put it this way: I hope Downey makes a lot of movies for us as Stark. If and when he doesn't, and I'm still here making these movies, we don't take him to Afghanistan and have him wounded again. I think we James Bond it."

The actor will almost certainly return as Tony Stark in the inevitable sequel The Avengers 2. After that, it isn't clear how many other movies, if any, Robert Downey Jr. is signed on for at Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige also spoke out about the negative connotation attached to the word "reboot," and how it shouldn't apply to The Amazing Spider-Man.

"I think the term reboot has got to go. I think it's like after the Star Wars movies nobody likes the idea of prequels, and reboots have turned into the same thing. It means 'Oh they've run out of ideas! It's bad.' I've seen The Amazing Spider-Man. It's awesome. It's totally fresh and unique."

Iron Man 3 comes to theaters May 3rd, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Jessica Chastain. The film is directed by Shane Black.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Sequel Could Be Released In 2014

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 09:54 AM PDT

Yesterday, we heard that 20th Century Fox has officially confirmed that a sequel to last year's hit sci-fi film Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes was in the works. Now, speaking with Collider, Fox CEO Tom Rothman updated on the status of the sequel. "That's very much on the tracks. We're developing a script. Rupert Wyatt, who directed the first one, will direct the second one. We're pushing forward aggressively, so the script's being written now." It was suggested in yesterday's report that the film could begin production this year, potentially for a 2013 release. Rothman, however, says that the studio's goal is to release it in 2014. "Yeah, I think it would make sense if we can, you know we serve no wine before it's time, but the goal for us would be summer of 2014, if that's possible." Also set to return is Andy Serkis, who signed on a few

Grant Morrison Says BATMAN Is "Very Very Gay"

Posted: 27 Apr 2012 09:42 AM PDT

Batman has been described as a lot of things, but I think this might be a first (well, I'm sure somebody used the word after seeing Batman And Robin) - comic book writer Grant Morrison describes the ol Caped Crusader as "utterly gay" in an interview with Playboy.. "He's very plutonian in the sense that he's wealthy and also in the sense that he's sexually deviant. Gayness is built into Batman." He continues.. "I'm not using gay in the pejorative sense, but Batman is very, very gay. There's just no denying it. Obviously as a fictional character he's intended to be heterosexual, but the basis of the whole concept is utterly gay. I think that's why people like it. All these women fancy him and they all wear fetish clothes and jump around rooftops to get to him. He doesn't care - he's more interested in hanging out with the old guy and the
