Posted: 29 Apr 2012 11:01 AM PDT I've created a new subreddit that will hopefully help people in the UK discover great movies available to watch for free (and legally) online. There is an incredible amount of content out there that can be viewed for free. The main issue is often finding it. I think a subreddit like this could ideally end up as a LoveFilm subscription for skint people. I'd like to see it become a place for content curated by redditors with links to films that are actually worth a watch. There are a fair few links over there at the moment but there's always room for more. If you have anything you think is worth sharing then please pop over and post it. One thing that's of paramount importance is that this isn't the place for copyright infringing material. I mainly say this because I don't fancy getting stuffed by Theresa May and extradited to the States for a bum raping in a federal prison. There are plenty of sites out there that specialise in that sort of thing, there isn't really a need for another. On the other hand there isn't much out there to help British people sort the wheat from the chaff in regards to finding legally available films for streaming. So, whether it's an artsy indie or an explodey blockbuster, if it's legal and can be viewed on a British ISP then it's welcome on /r/ukfreemovies. [link] [comment] |

I tried askreddit, but maybe you all will be more helpful. My boyfriend wants to be an actor... Posted: 29 Apr 2012 10:31 AM PDT I know, I know... doesn't everyone? But this is his life's dream, and I don't want to see him give it up. He's very talented, and whenever he's in a community theatre show, many people go out of their way to compliment him. He's a fairly good dancer, he can sing and act. We have no idea what to do next, though. How does he get where "important" people can see him and see what he can do? We don't know how to find big auditions or anything like that. We live near Bloomington, IL, meaning most of what's close by is small-time community stuff. I'm in school, so I can't move just yet, but even if we were to move to a bigger city, we wouldn't know where to go from there. It's very important to him, and I want to be able to help him get where he wants to be in life. We know the chances are slim, but the chances are nothing if we don't try. Any suggestions? Thanks, everyone! [link] [5 comments] |
What do you think poor people, in other countries, would think about American/western movies? Posted: 29 Apr 2012 09:56 AM PDT Whenever I watch movies they tend to be directed toward the working and middle class in America. But have you ever wondered if these adventures would have a universal appeal? For example, Toy Story, at least partly, is so beloved because we can all relate to it. But what if you plucked a fellow out of Africa and showed him that film? Granted the experience isn't completely new to him, what would he think about a movie like that? Would it move him emotionally when he did not have the experience of having similar childhood toys growing up? Or maybe he never had toys at all? What would his opinion be on that? STAR TREK 2: New Set Photos Featuring Spock; Chris Pine Says The Sequel Is "Relentless" Posted: 29 Apr 2012 10:46 AM PDT Speaking with Access Hollywood, actor Chris Pine discusses the upcoming sequel to the 2009 Star Trek reboot (in which he plays Capt. James T. Kirk). "Of course I'm gonna tell you I think it's gonna be better," he said. "You pick up the characters from where they left off, and the development of the characters — I think — is just as exciting as the first one. And it's relentless. I think that's the best adjective I can use." Additionally, he confirms that filming on the JJ Abrams-directed flick will be wrapped up soon. "We're almost done," he says. "It's wrapping up very soon. It's just as action-packed as the first one." In other Star Trek 2 news, four new set photos of Zachary Quinto as Spock have found their way online (via Daily Mail). POLL: How Much Do You Think MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Will Gross Worldwide? Posted: 29 Apr 2012 10:34 AM PDT Marvel's The Avengers has kicked off with an even more impressive start overseas than any of us could have possibly imagined. Breaking record after record, the latest film from Marvel Studios has opened up at #1 in each of the territories that Disney has so far released it in, and looks set to take the US by storm next weekend. Critics and fans alike love the superhero ensemble and this positive word of mouth is sure to help the Joss Whedon helmed flick continue to take more and more money over the next few weeks. However, how much do you think it will ultimately end up making? With some analysts already predicting $1B+, do you think it's really possible that Earth's Mightiest Heroes will become equally as mighty when it comes to topping the likes of Avatar and The Dark Knight as one of the highest grossing films ever?! Movie suggestion, a decent apocalyptic or post apocalyptic movie Posted: 29 Apr 2012 07:06 AM PDT First of all, I hope this is the right subreddit for getting movie suggestions, if it is not please point me in the right direction. I want to rent a movie that has something to do with the end of the world. I want to see something like melancholia where the characters realize their impending doom or something like I am Legend where the guy is all alone. [link] [11 comments] |
