The Big Lebowski on opening night in 1998...

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 09:44 AM PDT

I was a huge fan of the Coens since Raising Arizona and saw the trailer for TBL in another film (perhaps U-Turn?) and knew I had to watch it. I took my then girlfriend on opening night and there were perhaps 8 other people in the theater. The film started and within 2 minutes I knew this was going to be an amazing movie. Almost nobody laughed. After it was over, the few people walking out were mumbling things like "eh, it was stupid" or "that was boring." I thought it was one of the greatest films I'd ever seen. I absolutely loved it immediately. I have an uncle who's very similar to The Dude in that he's chronically unemployed and lounges around alot, but happens to be a born-again Christian. I told him he needed to see it; that he'd be able to identify with the main character, The Dude. He went to watch it and later told me "I really didn't see the point of that film. And they cursed so much it really put me off."

I tried telling everyone I knew to watch the film; friends, extended family, everyone. And those that did didn't like it. I still have my ticket stub; I was in love the moment I saw the trailer. And then, less than a month later, it was out of the regular theaters, ended up briefly at the Dollar Theater, and then it was gone.

Fast forward to 2005 when The Nuart in Santa Monica had a screening and the theater was packed with fans. I'm so glad the film found an audience. Everyone quotes this film and posts images around but I just wanted to share with those younger folks on reddit that it wasn't always so popular.

That is all; thanks for your time.

INTERVIEW: Hero Complex ... Tobey Maguire's Next Superhero Movie?

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 11:24 AM PDT

Tell CBMers about Hero Complex and what it is bringing to the floor as a new book. MARC: One of the things that interests Adam and I is taking a look at the familiar and finding new ways to explore it. Monster Attack Network springs from the classic Godzilla/kaiju story and examines what happens to an island's infrastructure when giant monsters invade on a regular basis. Hero Complex came from both of us hitting our 20-year high school reunion and wondering: "What happens when a guy who was the 100-pound weakling in high school, but has since become a full-fledged superhero, goes to his reunion? What happens when a changed man goes back home again?" We found a lot of grist for that particular mill. And a lot of humor. ADAM: I am really proud of the fact that all of our projects are different. "The Highwaymen" is vastly different

X-Men: First Class Beats Thor's Box Office For Opening Night

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 11:24 AM PDT

Box Office Mojo reports.. 6/3 Update: In its midnight launch, X-Men: First Class pulled in $3.37 million at 1,783 locations. That edged out Thor's $3.25 million midnight opening at 1,800 locations, but it trailed X-Men Origins: Wolverine's $5 million midnight start at 2,000 locations. So far this year, The Hangover Part II is the top midnight draw at $10.4 million, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' $4.7 million and Fast Five's $3.8 million. If First Class continues this way it could earn closer to $65 million in Thor grossed $65.7)it's first weekend. Still early days of course, but it's extremely unlikely that the movie will come to any kind of screeching halt. Of course, as we all(or we all should anyway) know, how much cash a movie makes is really no reflection on it's quality. Just look how much green the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean is raking in.

Possible TDKR Spoilers Regarding A Fight Between Bruce Wayne And Bane!

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 11:19 AM PDT

Thanks to a tip-off via Twitter, I was pointed in the direction of the following post by one of the users over at Batman-News. You can read more by clicking on the link below, but here is the comment. I got some snaps of Wayne/Bale falling out of a window in a Croydon office block last night (2 June) Apparently this is a hospital set. A long wait for some ok shots. Croydon was actually looking good too, who'd have thunk it? Until this person posts the supposed photos, it's best to take the info with a pinch of salt. (as with any rumor) However, it certainly sounds plausible after the recent spoilers DCMarvelFreshman posted which claimed that Alfred would be hospitalised at some point. Could Bane be lying in wait for an unsuspecting Bruce Wayne after attacking Alfred? Be sure to share your thoughts and speculate in the usual place! With an all star

42 Entertainment May Not Be Back For The Dark Knight Rises's Market Campaign

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 09:15 AM PDT

Batman-News.com is reporting that 42 Entertainment - who worked on the memorable viral campaign for The Dark Knight three years ago - may or may not be back for the film's sequel, The Dark Knight Rises. Movie Viral is also saying that they were contacted by a representative of 42 Entertainment, and here's what they said... I was just contacted by someone who works with 42 Entertainment who tells me that all the major individuals (producers, writers, etc.) who worked on the Why So Serious campaign are in fact still with the company. Also, although 42E is not currently working on the TDKR campaign, Warner Bros. could still contact them later on. Given that the film isn't set to release in theaters until July 20, 2012, the studio has some time to decide if they want work with 42E again. So do you want 42 Entertainment to do the viral marketing for TDKR,
