Martin Campbell Explains What Attracted Him To Green Lantern!

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 10:36 AM PDT

Recently while chatting with Telegraph, Martin Campbell - who's directed films such as Goldeneye, Casino Royale (2006), and next week's Green Lantern - explains what attracted him to directing a super hero film for the first time, and also labels what the most difficult parts of filming the project - the special effects and finding the right tone. I did it because I'd never done a superhero movie before. And they're complicated. I had no idea. You accept these jobs and then you realise you're in the quicksand. It was an extraordinary learning curve, conceptualising the characters, going to another planet, deciding what the planet looks like and keeping a sort of reality, if you can call it that. The most difficult thing, apart from the damned effects, which are so time-consuming, is finding a tone and keeping the reality of it. Green Lantern hits theaters June 17th, a week from tomorrow!

Cage the Elephant recently released 'Around My Head,' the second single off their esteemed 'Thank You Happy Birthday.' The London-based band, in the midst of a massive headlining tour, are still soaking in the fact that their sophomore album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 Chart.

In an exclusive interview with Spinner, Cage the Elephant lead singer Matthew Shultz discusses the band's matured sound, and
their "musical ADD with a dash of hyper paranoia." He also divulges which Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle he is most similar to, explains where he purchased the dress that he wore at Coachella, and shares his surreal encounter with Sir Paul McCartney.

What was the inspiration for the new single, 'Around My Head'?

When I wrote the song, I was hanging out with our friends, Morning Teleportation. They're an amazing band. Tiger's the type of guy that every time he touches an instrument, it makes you jealous so I wrote it like on the spot. They had all these new songs and I said, "Yeah, I have a new song I'm working on right now," so I just picked up the guitar and started playing it and that's how that song came about pretty much.

A life-long Status Quo fan has seen his dream of writing a song for his heroes finally realised. Super-fan Alan Crook wrote the lyrics for new Quo track 'Any Way You Like It' which is set to feature on the band's new album 'Quid Pro Quo.'

Alan Crook, a 49-year-old trucker from Suffolk, had posted lyrics in the past without any luck, but this time around his words caught the attention of bassist John Edwards and keyboard player Andrew Brown who wrote the music for the song.

For Crook it's a dream come true. He told The Sun, "I will get some royalties but I didn't do it for the money. It is the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition."

DAE find that celebrity voices distract you from the movie and wish they used "unknowns"?

Posted: 09 Jun 2011 05:52 AM PDT

I recently watched Paul and couldn't help thinking about how I would've preferred a voice that I didn't associate with an actors face throughout the whole film.

I find that thought crossing my mind whenever I watch a cartoon too. Too many celebrity voices. I'd prefer they cast unknown voice talent so that you could focus more on the movie without being distracted.
