Deerfhoof Call on Jeff Tweedy to 'Behold a Marvel in the Darkness' -- NXNE

DeerhoofSarah Cass

Deerhoof are an indie institution. They've released 11 albums, each of which combines pop, noise and structure into an experimental stew that often sounds nothing like its predecessor but always like Deerhoof. After 17 years they've reached the point where they can open for Radiohead on big arena tours and receive press in major publications, yet still remain underground enough to retain their "cult band" status. Spinner caught up with drummer/songwriter Greg Saunier at his homebase in San Francisco to discuss staying fresh, Congolese music and an alternate version of the band starring Jeff Tweedy.

You're on your eleventh album now. Do you have to make an effort never to get too comfortable?

So far, in seventeen years, we've never been in the danger zone there. It's always uncomfortable. It's awkward; people are sensitive; it's hard to make revisions. A person's most secret ambitions, imaginations, desires, musical fantasies, brainstorms and risky ideas are the things that we're making the band out of, so it's really easy for it all to go wrong. The nature of doing anything semi-artistic, you're not risking life and death, but you're exposing some private part of yourself, and that can be grueling.

Chris Evans Seduces GQ Interviewer - Is this the behavior of Captain America?!!

Posted: 14 Jun 2011 10:06 AM PDT

Head over to GQ to get the whole story, but here are the juicy bits. High fives all around! ...Chris Evans arrived on time at Sonny McLean's, an Irish pub in Santa Monica chosen for no real reason other than we're both from Boston, and Boston has lots of Irish bars. He showed up in aviators, a red T-shirt, and a backward baseball cap pulled down to his eyebrows. "How aggressive can I be?" Chris grinned. "Shots?" ...Since we're both single and roughly the same age, it was hard for me not to treat our interview as a sort of date. Surprisingly, Chris did the same, asking all about me, my family, my job, my most recent relationship. And from ten minutes into that first interview, when he reached across the table to punctuate a joke by putting his hand on top of mine, Chris kept up frequent hand holding and lower-back

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adds Sean Astin and Jason Biggs

Posted: 14 Jun 2011 10:19 AM PDT

Sean Astin and Jason Biggs join Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings) has joined the cast of Nickelodeon's all-new CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as Raphael, one of four teenage brothers dedicated to a life battling evil denizens. Rounding out the cast are Jason Biggs (American Pie) as Leonardo, Greg Cipes (Teen Titans) as Michelangelo and Rob Paulsen as Donatello. Paulsen also voiced the original Raphael from 1987-1996 in the first series. Currently in production at the Nick Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif., the show is set to premiere in fall 2012. Executive produced by Ciro Nieli, Joshua Sternin and J.R. Ventimilia, this half-hour action-comedy series breathes new life into the wildly popular band of reptile brothers.

"I'm excited to be joining the ranks of the newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles team," said Astin. "This franchise and these characters are beloved around the world, and I'm proud to be the next Raphael. I plan to bring the kind of passion and dedication to the role that TMNT fans have the right to expect."

"We're thrilled to have such a talented group of actors to voice the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in this new series," said Brown Johnson, President, Animation, Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group. "This cast will bring great humor and intensity to our new action comedy take on the band of turtle brothers."

Raphael (Astin) is the biggest and toughest of the brothers, and has little patience for stealth operations, hiding in the shadows or keeping his voice down. Leonardo (Biggs), considered to be the leader of the turtles, aspires to be the perfect hero around his three smart-aleck brothers. Donatello (Paulsen) is the reclusive, yet utterly brilliant team inventor who is able to cobble together fantastic weapons from things scrounged from a trash heap. And Michelangelo (Cipes) is enthusiastic, easily distracted, loves pop culture and is always trying to get in on the latest fad.

Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles begins as the turtles emerge from their hidden lair in the sewers for the very first time, ready to confront the wondrous and hostile world of New York City and face enemies more dangerous and pizza more delicious than anything they could have imagined. Funnier and with more Ninjitsu than ever before, the show will explore the camaraderie of four teenage brothers learning to rely on themselves and one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and grow to become the heroes in a half-shell that they are destined to be.

Considered one of the most popular kids' television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned four blockbuster theatrical releases. The property also has translated into a significant consumer products business - with DVDs, video games, toys and more - that has generated billions of dollars at retail.

Nickelodeon Consumer Products will continue to work with its original and long-standing toy partner, Playmates Toys, which has been the creative force behind the successful TMNT master toy program over the last two decades. Playmates is already developing a product line based on the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series which will cater to kids and consumers all around the world.

Next up for TMNT, this coming July at Comic-Con in San Diego, Calif., select fans will get an exclusive sneak peek at the re-imagination of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, preview all-new never-before-seen content, and meet special guests who are working on the new property.

Possible Vague Scene Description For TDKR Featuring Bane & R'as Al Ghul

Posted: 14 Jun 2011 09:37 AM PDT

I'm posting this one as a "Possible" because I can't be 100% sure of it's validity. That is to say, I believe it's legit, but I don't KNOW that it is. I also can't go into too much detail since I promised my source I wouldn't Anyway, here are what little details I can tell you. My source was witness to a scene shot earlier today in [Censored]. He/she describes the following.. A large team in black hoods storm a room holding Tom Hardy as Bane led by what looked like a young ra's and kill off some stragglers. Now he/she wasn't certain it was a young R'as(who is played by Josh Pence), but believes it is. If so we have a young R'as, and Tom hardy as Bane? Doesn't sound right to me unless Bane is supposed to be considerably older than Tom Hardy looks. OR Pence could be playing a "rejuvenated" Ra's

What happened to Val Kilmer? What causes this?

I think the ending of "Coyote Ugly" is very rude

Posted: 14 Jun 2011 07:16 AM PDT

The main character auctioned off Walter at the end of the movie and he danced on the bar. Not only did he clearly state during the movie that he was seeing someone but that person was AT THE BAR with him!

If I were the girlfriend I'd be very insulted because the main character couldn't care less about her.
