Joel and Ethan Coen Look to Folk Singer Dave Van Ronk for Next Project

    Posted: 25 Jun 2011 10:24 AM PDT

Dave van Ronk is the subject of the Coen Brother's next project

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen had made it known that their next project after True Grit would be music-related, but they offered no other details. Now, an insider has come forward to reveal that the brothers are actually making a movie about the Greenwhich Village folk scene, and that it will be loosely based on singer Dave van Ronk.

Dave van Ronk is considered the patriarch of New York City's burgeoning coffee house scene in the mid-20th Century. He died in 2002, ushering and cultivating many popular acts such as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Joel Coen and Ethan Coen are believed to be putting together a script from Dave van Ronk's memoir The Mayor of MacDougal Street. It isn't clear why its not being considered a straight-up biopic at this time.

Speaking at New York's Lincoln Center earlier in the month, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen compared their new project to Margot at the Wedding, suggesting that the movie will have an almost documentary-like feel to it. Here is what they said.

"We're working on a movie now that has music in it [that's] pretty much all performed live, single instrument.

It isn't known when production on this untitled Folk project will begin, but some suspect it will happen soon.

Green Lantern Box Office Takings Drop 72% In The Space Of Just One Week!

    Posted: 25 Jun 2011 09:40 AM PDT

Here is an excerpt from Deadline's latest box office report. If you're interested in reading the whole thing, head on over there by clicking the link below. Green Lantern 3D (Warner Bros) Week 2 [3,816 Theaters] Friday $6M (-72%), Estimated Weekend $19.4M (-63%), Estimated Cume $91M This is pretty poor, especially when compared to the other recently released comic book movies like THOR and X-Men: First Class. The former took $9.1 million on its second Friday, while the latter raked in $7.7 million. While these changes may not appear to be that significant (neither were that far off Green Lantern is the percentage they dropped) the fact that the latest movie from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment is rumored to have had a budget of $300 million, makes it far from the success that was originally predicted. When you factor in what Green Lantern has made around the rest of the world, it would

Two very popular characters first appear in season 2 of The Walking Dead as Rick and co arrive at a farm who's occupants have been ravaged by Zombies. Now we have word on the actors that have been cast as Hershel and Maggie Greene. TV Guide report, with mild spoilers.. Scott Wilson (In Cold Blood, Monster, Junebug) will play Hershel Greene. "He is the patriarch of the family," says executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. "He's a veterinarian with a great sense of humanity and a very unique take on the Walkers." Expect Hershel to endure great heartache as "not everyone in his family survives." Scott was chosen, says Hurd, because of his "tremendous scope and gravitas." Farmer's daughter Maggie is among Hershel's fortunate few children who survive the zombie plague. "She's in her twenties and is a survivor who ends up as a romantic interest for Glenn (Steven Yuen)," says Hurd. With sci-fi

RESULTS: What Did You Think Of Green Lantern?

    Posted: 25 Jun 2011 08:52 AM PDT

Well, a bit of a surprise here I think. I expected you guys to go a bit easier on the movie, but not THIS much easier. 32.13% of you chose the third option and felt it was good but could have been better. But it seems 26.10% think that Green Lantern was one of the best CBMs we have ever seen. I agree completely. I agree, provided we class Catwoman, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Spawn and Jonah Hex as among the best, GL most certainly comes out on top. Here are the results in full.. Will this motivate you to give Green Lantern another watch? Here is my take on the movie if you're Interested By TwitterButtons.com
