In Their Words: "Sedgie is probably singing about loneliness and heartbreak, but everyone knows that there's something about romantic ambivalence that can feel oddly pleasurable like nothing else. It's the kind of stuff that can make a bad relationship addictive, even thrilling. Also, there are a lot of synths and that 'ah uh uh uh' part is pretty cool." -- Max Heath, producer

President Barack Obama hit the 40/40 Club in New York City Tuesday night for a $40,000-per-person fundraiser hosted by Jay-Z and Beyoncé.

The POTUS reportedly showered Beyoncé with praise and had a little fun at Jay-Z's expense. "Beyoncé could not be a better role model for my girls. We both have daughters, and our wives are more popular than we are. So, you know, we've got a little bond there. It's hard, but it's okay."

Tales from the Crypt Returns to TV on FEARNet!

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 10:37 AM PDT

Tales From the Crypt returns to TV on FEARNet October 5

The Emmy Award-winning anthology horror series Tales from the Crypt returns to network television starting Friday, October 5, when FEARnet debuts TV versions of the groundbreaking program on its linear channel and presents original episodes on its VOD platform. This marks the first time that Tales from the Crypt can be seen on network TV since 2004, when it was previously syndicated.

The TV Tales from the Crypt episodes will premiere Friday nights in a two-hour block on FEARnet from 10 p.m. to Midnight ET/7 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT and will be re-aired on Mondays in the same time period. The 93 produced episodes will play in order, beginning with Season 1 and continuing through its seventh, and final, season.

The original cable versions of Tales from the Crypt, running from 1989 to 1996, are now available for the first time since their first airing, for FEARnet's VOD platform. Starting Wednesday, October 10, the premiere episodes will launch on FEARnet's VOD platform, which is currently available in more than 26 million homes. On FEARnet's industry-leading VOD Channel, the episodes will be presented in their original unedited format. Four episodes will be added to the VOD library every Wednesday, ensuring that there will always be something new and fresh for viewers to watch. Each episode will remain in the VOD library for six weeks.

After becoming the new president and general manager of FEARnet in August 2010, Peter Block wanted to bring this classic horror series to the network as his first order of business. In making the announcement today, an elated Block said:

"Tales from the Crypt was the first time that horror writers, directors and actors came together in one place to produce a TV series to celebrate the genre. Tales had everything - comedy, gore, splatter, slash, thrill and suspense - and it quickly became appointment television. I knew that this series was the perfect vehicle to complement our programming and, although it took us two years to acquire it, it was well worth the wait."

Joel Silver, who produced numerous Hollywood hits including such franchises as Die Hard, The Matrix, and Sherlock Holmes, also served on Tales from the Crypt's all-star team of executive producers that included Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon), Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump), Walter Hill (48 Hours) and David Giler (Prometheus). Said Silver: "We're incredibly pleased that FEARnet is the new TV home to both versions of Tales. We are proud of the work that we accomplished on this series and we believe, as FEARnet does, that the episodes are just as effective now as they were when they originally aired. It's exciting to be able to introduce this cult classic now to a new generation."

"One of the best things about Tales from the Crypt is that it's an anthology series, so you're always getting to see something new and different each time you tune in," said Sarah Shannon, FEARnet's director of programming. "It is our hope to augment the series with specially produced bonus content. We are grateful to the producers for offering us exclusives from the series and access to historical materials. From this, we should be able to produce some extra goodies that will be loved by the fans."

Based on a creepy compilation of stories from the provocative EC line of horror, crime and suspense comics, Tales from the Crypt brought those animated specters of terror to life in unforgettable episodes featuring unlikely genre turns from a variety of modern Hollywood stars such as Brad Pitt (Seven); Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island); and Daniel Craig (Skyfall).

In the month of October alone, FEARnet viewers will be treated to timeless episodes like "And All Through the House", based on the classic "Vault of Horror" entry about a maniacal Santa Clause terrorizing a murderous housewife on Christmas Eve (Oct. 5); "Collection Completed", directed by Mary Lambert (Pet Sematary) and starring M. Emmet Walsh (Blood Simple) as a recent retiree with a sinister plan for his wife's adopted pets (Oct. 12); The Sacrifice, starring Michael Ironside (Scanners), about a murderous man being blackmailed for his deeds (Oct. 26); and "Four-Sided Triangle", directed by Tom Holland (Fright Night) and starring Patricia Arquette (Medium) as a troubled woman in love with a scarecrow (Oct. 26).

Additionally, FEARnet fans will be able to access all-new "Crypt" content on FEARnet.com. These extras will include a gallery of v comic book covers that were used on the show; exclusive video clips such as this one* when FEARnet filmed the opening of the "Tales" storage vault; and "Cryptkeeper-isms," a collection of classic one-liners from the Master of Scaremonies, himself.

Also, in promoting the launch of the series, FEARnet has teamed up with FRIGHT-RAGS, the leading producer of horror t-shirts and apparel, and Mondo, the Austin-based art gallery renowned for its stable of genre artists, to produce limited editions of give-aways championing Tales from the Crypt on FEARnet. The "Tales" themed FRIGHT-RAGS t-shirt will be given away to FEARnet and FRIGHT-RAGS fans beginning next month and the Mondo designed "Tales" pint glass will be distributed at the upcoming Fantastic Fest at Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX.

House at the End of the Street Takes Us on a L.A. Murder House Tour!

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 10:14 AM PDT

We go on a L.A. murder house tour for House At The End of the Street, including this home where The Black Dahlia may have died

Every year, there are usually a number of horror films based on or inspired by some sort of true story. The upcoming Relativity Media thriller House at the End of the Street is not based on such a story, but, if you're familiar with any number of grisly crimes in Los Angeles, it very well could be. In honor of this terrifying tale, arriving in theaters September 21, I was invited to take part in a unique tour of infamous L.A. murder houses, all of which were in very different neighborhoods scattered throughout the City of Angels.

Our evening began, fittingly, at the Museum of Death on Hollywood Boulevard, where we were shown a number of bizarre "artifacts" from the Charlie Manson killings and the Heaven's Gate mass suicide. There were also some of the most sickening images I have ever seen, taken by an L.A. woman and her boyfriend who decided to murder and dismember the woman's husband... and then take photos of it... and then take said photos to get developed, which lead to their arrest.

From there, we were driven all around the city to see some of these infamous edifices. One of the most puzzling murders in L.A. history is The Black Dahlia case, which has still never been solved to this day. Actress Elizabeth Short was found in Leinart Park in January 1947, and there are hundreds of theories as to who may have committed this heinous crime. We were shown the house where it has been speculated that the actual murder took place, before the aspiring actress was dumped in Leinart Park.

We also saw the house where screenwriter Robert Lees (Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man, Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein) was savagely murdered (and beheaded) in 2004. To think, this man was one of the "blacklisted" writers of the McCarthy Era who lived to be 91 years old, only to die at the hands of a homeless man who broke into his own home.

The house where My Sister Sam stsar Rebecca Schaeffer was killed in 1989

The next stop on our tour was home to a crime that shocked all of Hollywood in the late 1980s, but did end up leading to new laws being passed because of it. Rebecca Schaeffer was a rising star on the hit CBS sitcom My Sister Sam before being shot in her own home in 1989 by an obsessive fan. The deranged man obtained her address through a private detective, who received the info through the California Department of Motor Vehicles. In response to the killing, The Driver's Privacy Prevention Act was passed in 1994, preventing the DMV from releasing private addresses.

Among other stops on our trek through L.A. was the home where Dominique Dunne was slain, and the infamous Menendez slaughter. Our tour guide from Dearly Departed Tours, Brian, revealed that Jose and Kitty Menendez were actually watching the movie The Spy Who Loved Me when they were killed. We also saw the residences where gangster Bugsy Siegel and Johnny Stompanato, one of gangster Mickey Cohen's enforcers, were killed. Johnny Stompanato was dating Hollywood starlet Lana Turner before he was stabbed by her daughter, Cheryl, who alleged that Stompanato was beating her mother. The courts actually ruled it as a "justifiable homicide."

I have to say, after living in L.A. for nearly five years, I probably learned more about this city on that tour than in my entire time here combined. It just goes to show that, no matter what kind of neighborhood you live in, there may be sinister things afoot in the house at the end of your street. clickHere to check out the rest of the photos from the tour on MovieWeb's Instagram account. You can clickHere for more information on the Museum of Death on Hollywood Boulevard, and clickHere to learn more about the Dearly Departed Tours. Be sure to follow us on Instagram for continues updates and photos. Just search Movieweb and follow!

House at the End of the Street comes to theaters September 21st, 2012 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Max Thieriot, Elisabeth Shue, Gil Bellows, Eva Link, Nolan Gerard Funk, Allie MacDonald, Jordan Hayes. The film is directed by Mark Tonderai.

Another New Clip From BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS - Part 1

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 09:56 AM PDT

It's been a decade since Bruce Wayne hung up his cape, following most of the other superheroes who had been forced into retirement. Facing the downside of middle age, a restless Bruce Wayne pacifies his frustration with race cars and liquor – but the bat still beckons as he watches his city fall prey to gangs of barbaric criminals known as The Mutants. The return of Harvey Dent as Two-Face finally prompts Wayne to once again don the Dark Knight's cowl, and his dramatic capture of the villain returns him to crime-fighting – simultaneously making him the target of law enforcement and the new hope for a desolate Gotham City. Particularly inspired is a teenage girl named Carrie, who adopts the persona of Robin and ultimately saves Batman from a brutal attack by the Mutant leader. Armed with a new sidekick, and re-energized with a definitive purpose, the Dark Knight returns

Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 May Include Chinese Na'vi as James Cameron Plans Co-Production with China

Posted: 19 Sep 2012 09:43 AM PDT

Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 plans for Chinese Na'vi

China is poised to conquer and control America over the course of the next decade. We all know that. And Hollywood is jumping on the takeover early, with many productions hitching their wagon to the Chinese entertainment industry. One such franchise in the midst of doing just that is James Cameron's Avatar, with the director planning to make Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 Chinese co-productions.

This past August, the Cameron/Pace Group announced that CPG China would be providing camera systems and other 3D services in Tianjin. While some work will be done in China, James Cameron still plans to shoot all of the performance capture in Los Angeles, and the live action scenes in Wellington, New Zealand as he did on the first film. But he feels that having part of the production shot in China is good for business. He also believes that there should be Chinese Na'vi visible throughout the film.

Here's what he had to say on the matter.

"Within five years, China could easily be as big a gross-revenue market for film as North America, and there are very specific economic incentives for having both Chinese content and Chinese co-production. We are already funded on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, but if we qualify as a co-production, there might be some incentives in the percentage of revenue we can take out of China.

We are running the numbers to see if that makes sense. For Avatar, we can certainly use Chinese actors as performance capture actors because any accent issues will hide within the Na'vi accent.

So we can have Chinese Na'vi; [and in the live-action sequences] we can also have Chinese actors who speak English in the film. We are projecting a future in Avatar, and if you project that future out, it is logical that there would be a number of Chinese amongst the contingent on Pandora."

Marvel Studios is also siding on this trend, announcing their Iron Man 2 as a Chinese co-production that will utilize the country's locations and talent.

Avatar 2 comes to theaters in 2014. The film is directed by James Cameron.

Avatar 3 comes to theaters in 2015. The film is directed by James Cameron.
