The Directors of Marvel's PHASE II; A Compilation of Their Previous Work Posted: 03 Sep 2012 10:13 AM PDT Ready for Marvel's PHASE II, but can't get everything out of your system by watching PHASE I over and over again? Here's a definitive list of other projects by the upcoming directors/writers of Marvel's PHASE II movies that you should check out in the meantime. Be very excited. Very, very excited. Shane Black Directing Credit: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang Writing Credits: Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Last Action Hero, The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Last Boy Scout Best Example of What to Expect with Iron Man 3: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (which reunites Downey Jr. with Black in the role that revitalized his career) and Lethal Weapon. The first film, both penned and directed by Black, is a hilarious, neo-noir, buddy-cop film that showcases impressive performances from Downey Jr., Val Kilmer, and Michelle Monaghan. It's an absolute must-see, and almost a dead-ringer for what one could suspect the tone of Iron Man 3 |

Man of Steel Is Modern and Realistic Says Henry Cavill Posted: 03 Sep 2012 09:44 AM PDT Man of Steel is shaping up to be one of 2013's most anticipated movies, bringing the iconic hero Superman back to the big screen, under the direction of Zack Snyder. Star Henry Cavill recently spoke about this superhero reboot, revealing that this is a more modern take on the DC Comics character. "What I can say is that it's a modernization of the character and a very realistic view of one, obviously, very fantastic individual. It's an unreal situation, but it's approached from a very practical viewpoint. We wanted to make the character easier to identify with." He also spoke about accepting the massive amount of pressure that goes part and parcel with a role of this magnitude. "It's important to do the role justice. There are a lot of people relying on me to do this well. I gladly accept that responsibility, and it's a great one to have because it's a wonderful opportunity. I don't let the pressures get to me because that's going to hinder my performance and, therefore, let people down. So I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman." Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder. |
COMICS: VENOM Moves To A New City And Gains A Superhero Love Interest This December Posted: 03 Sep 2012 09:35 AM PDT Marvel have today announced that Venom will be moving to the City of Brotherly Love in this December's Venom #28 as Flash Thompson leaves New York behind in order to make a fresh start. "Now, he's trying to do the right thing. He's reassessing what it means to be a hero. And he's looking for a fresh start," series writer Cullen Bunn explains to The Associated Press. "This means a lot of things for Flash. He's surrounding himself with new people — such as tabloid journalist Katy Kiernan and his new love interest, the Asgardian Valkyrie. He's changing his approach to being a superhero. And he's looking for a change of scenery. I've always liked that Marvel superheroes are adventuring in the 'real' world. Certainly, there will be some fictional elements popping up in stories, but I'll try to keep it as grounded in the actual city as possible. It's time |
Wang Xueqi Joining IRON MAN 3 As Radioactive Man? Posted: 03 Sep 2012 08:56 AM PDT First spotted over at Comic Book, a last-minute addition to the ensemble cast of Marvel's Shane Black-directed third Iron Man installment has been revealed. After being snapped in a photo with the film's chief producer, sources from the Chinese actor's camp and Mtime.com can confirm that it's Wang Xueqi who's joining the film. The site reports that the 66-year-old actor will portray Chen Lu, who was a scientist before becoming the villain known as Radioactive Man. In the comics, he was often employed by The Mandarin, played by Sir Ben Kingsley. While not reported, Hong Kong singer/actor Andy Lau was originally up for Xueqi's role, which was described as an ally of Tony Stark. However, Lau had to drop the role wanting to spend time with his family. It's also worth noting that Chen Lu is said to feature in the post-credits scene of Iron Man 3, which will set up Edgar |
FME 2012: Godspeed You Black Emperor, Feist, Patrick Watson Anchor Quirky Northern Quebec Fest Posted: 03 Sep 2012 12:30 PM PDT Filed under: Concerts and Tours, News, Exclusive Frank Yang, Chromewaves As the festival's name suggests, FME's mission is to showcase emerging regional artists, most of whom are unknown outside their native Quebec. (In fact, a fair share of this year's line-up could be described as One Degree of Karkwa, as the 2010 Polaris Music Prize winners' frontman, Louis-Jean Cormier, performed solo, while percussionist Julien Sagot turned in a set of smoky, Gainsbourgian art-rock on a Saturday-night bill at the Paramount Theatre opening for Marie-Pierre Arthur, whose band includes Karkwa keyboardist François Lafontaine.) The quality of year's headliners, however, exemplified FME's increasing renown and reach: indie-pop queen Feist and reunited orchestro-rock overlords Godspeed You! Black Emperor (a band known for being particularly picky about where it plays). Other notable visitors included Montreal prog-pop outfit Plants and Animals, rising indie-rock dramatists Half Moon Run, and doom-folk oracle Timber Timbre. |
