The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Adds Jeffrey Wright as Beetee Posted: 07 Sep 2012 10:11 AM PDT Lionsgate has announced that Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the role of Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' worldwide smash hit novel "Catching Fire." Hailing from District 3, Beetee earns the nickname "Volts" because of his electronics expertise. Critically acclaimed and known to theater, film and television audiences alike, Wright garnered a Tony Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning epic Angels in America and reprised his Angels role in HBO's 2003 mini-series adaptation of the play, earning both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his groundbreaking performance. Since then he has played memorable roles in films as diverse as Basquiat, Source Code, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, W., Syriana and Cadillac Records. Wright can next be seen with Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Allen Hughes' political thriller Broken City. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has sold more than 50 million books in print and digital in the U.S. alone. Lionsgate will release The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on November 22, 2013. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes to theaters December 22nd, 2013 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones. Fox to Offer Digital Movies Three Weeks Before DVDs and VOD Posted: 06 Sep 2012 10:52 PM PDT Fox is giving consumers the opportunity to purchase high definition digital copies of upcoming films three weeks before they are available on Blu-ray/DVD or Video on Demand, starting with Ridley Scott's Prometheus. The studio is implementing this new system in an attempt to spark interest in purchasing home entertainment mediums. They are also dropping the price to $15 each, down from a previous $20 price tag. Consumer spending on home entertainment has dropped from around $21.8 billion in 2004 to about $18.4 billion in 2011. Last year, Fox briefly offered some films for about $30 through an on-demand service two months after their theatrical release. The experiment was quickly stopped after theater owners rallied against the idea. They also have Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Watch and Ice Age: Continental Drift on deck to follow along the footsteps of Prometheus. |

A Tale Dark & Grimm Lands at FilmNation Posted: 06 Sep 2012 06:23 PM PDT FilmNation Entertainment has acquired the feature film rights to the popular children's book A Tale Dark & Grimm by author Adam Gidwitz. FilmNation will partner with Marissa McMahon of Kamala Films to finance the development and produce alongside FilmNation Entertainment's Aaron Ryder and Karen Lunder. Jon Gunn (Mercy Streets, My Date With Drew) and John Mann (Mercy Streets) are confirmed to adapt the screenplay. Currently in development, the live action feature film will be based on Gidwitz's original frightening and witty stories. Inspired by some of Grimm's more gruesome tales, the story follows the adventures of two unsuspecting children who hold the key to breaking out of the dark ages. FilmNation Entertainment's Aaron Ryder said: "We have been searching for distinctive source material for our first family project. We found this in Gidwitz's witty manuscript and look forward to nurturing the project with our partners at Kamala Films." Previously, they penned the Seth Rogen-voiced feature Boo U. for Dreamworks Animation and the Mattel-toy inspired feature Magic 8 Ball for Paramount. Mann and Gunn are repped by WME and Mosaic. |
