ATP 2012, Day Three: Thee Oh Sees, The Make-Up and More

Devon Maloney

This weekend, we've already brought you two advice manuals for your first All Tomorrow's Parties. The last day is by far the hardest, but you've made it this far, so don't stop now! Here's the final installment:

At this point in the game, ibuprofen and coffee are your only friends. Let them be good to you. When you arrive late, sleepy and/or hung over, savor what little of Braids' set as you possibly can. Thank the gods that a band who should've gotten a nighttime performance is getting a daytime slot, because it turns out you needed the electric jolt.

If you felt Vetiver was lacking something in the way of enthusiasm, Tall Firs will be the antidote. They'll make their sleepy late afternoon set entertaining despite its mellowness, telling back stories behind songs (about psychic and psycho ex-girlfriends) and feigning outrage that the staff "stole" their drinks backstage. The banter will provide an easy transition into the rest of the day.

Rihanna to Drop Shiny New Single This Week

Posted: 24 Sep 2012 10:57 AM PDT

Chart-topper Rihanna is set to drop her latest single, "Diamonds," this Wednesday. The pop star officially announced plans to release the record this weekend, telling Z100's Elvis Duran at the iHeart Radio Festival, "The lyrics are very hopeful and positive, but it's about love and the gears are a little different from what people would expect."

The "Talk That Talk" singer also said "Diamonds" is a "happy and hippy record" that's "laid back" and "hopeful."

Rihanna has not officially announced when her new album will be released, but MTV speculates it'll hit shelves in November, as have several of her past albums. Earlier this month, the French brand of her record label, Def Jam, tweeted that her seventh album was set for a November release, but the tweet was quickly deleted.

TWITTER BUZZ: DREDD 3D

Posted: 24 Sep 2012 10:06 AM PDT

Dredd is one of the most entertaining movies of the year. Is it a theatrical masterpiece or exemplary feat of acting or special effects? No, but it is a gritty, faithful, adaptation of one of the best characters to ever scowl across a comic book panel. It sure as hell deserves better than its paltry $6.3M estimated weekend box-office take. Correct your mistake, assuage your misgivings and go see Dredd this week! Finally saw DREDD. Absolutely nailed themood and character. *****— Dave Gibbons (@davegibbons90) September 17, 2012 DREDD was great. Focused, tense, perfect casting.
