HBO renews Game of Thrones for Season 2

Following strong critical and viewer response to the series' April 17 debut, HBO has renewed Game of Thrones for a second season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

"We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin's amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers," said Lombardo. "This is the continuation of an exciting creative partnership."

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series "A Song of Ice and Fire," by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones follows kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and noblemen as they vie for power in a land where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime.

Among the early critical raves, TV Guide has called the show "a crowning triumph" and "brilliant," while the Los Angeles Times termed Game of Thrones "a great and thundering series," as well as "wild and bewitching." The Hollywood Reporter praised the "excellent storytelling, superb acting and stunning visual effects," and the New York Post observed that the "art directing, acting and incredible sets are as breathtaking as the massive scope of the series."

The gross audience for the premiere night of Game of Thrones on the main HBO channel was 4.2 million viewers.

The season one cast includes (in alphabetical order): Mark Addy, Alfie Allen, Sean Bean, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Fairley, Aidan Gillen, Jack Gleeson, Iain Glen, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Isaac Hempstead-Wright, Harry Lloyd, Richard Madden, Rory McCann, Jason Momoa, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.

Season one credits: Game of Thrones is executive produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss; co-executive producers, Carolyn Strauss, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis, Ralph Vicinanza and George R.R. Martin; producers, Mark Huffam and Frank Doelger; directors of photography, Marco Pontecorvo, Alik Sakharov and Matt Jensen; production designer, Gemma Jackson; costume designer, Michele Clapton.

The Vandals Secure Legal Victory Over Artwork Dispute

Punk band the Vandals have apparently secured a preliminary victory against Variety Magazine as part of a long-running dispute.

The row centres over their cover from the 2004 album 'Hollywood Potato Chip,' on which the typography parodied the Variety logo, resulting in a cease and desist order from the magazine, reports the LA Times.

The dispute was originally settled when the band re-designed the lettering on the cover. But in April 2010, Variety sued the band again when they found the original cover resurface on the internet.

Fortunately, Vandals bassist Joe Escalante also doubles as a qualified lawyer, and he won't go down without a fight. The band have just won the first round of legal proceedings by getting the case transferred from Delaware to the supposedly "more convenient" jurisdiction of Los Angeles, where the band have a better chance of recovering their legal fees for an abridgement of free speech.

"Bachelor" lovebirds Brad Womack and Emily Maynard have reportedly called it quits, Life & Style.com reports. Reality strikes again.

According to sources, the relationship fell apart in recent days. "Emily told Brad that she can't picture them getting married," an insider revealed to Life & Style. "Brad's not acting like a fiancé, and she knows that he's not going to change. Emily knows in her heart of hearts that the relationship is finished." "Emily was very close to moving with her daughter, Ricki, to Austin, Texas, just weeks ago, but that's not true anymore," a second source said. One of the reasons cited was Emily's fear Brad was cheating on her. "Brad seemed very complacent all of a sudden," said the insider. "He did everything he could to woo and charm Emily on the show, and then it just slowed. She felt like, 'If he's not wanting to see her, who is he with?'" The two admitted their relationship has been troubled since Brad proposed to Emily on "The Bachelor" finale in March, but have been publicly supporting their engagement.
