Hole in the Desert Lands Cerina Vincent

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 10:47 AM PDT

Cerina Vincent joins the cast of Hole in the Desert for director Steven R. Monroe

Director Steven R. Monroe's (I Spit on Your Grave) next feature film will be the revenge/action/thriller Hole In the Desert. The independently financed feature will begin principal photography in June.

The film is a violent, edgy ride focusing on the forlorn Reagan Tyler, a man who troubled by visions and premonitions that ultimately lead him to a small desert town. It's there that Reagan meets the beautiful and mysterious Monika, a young woman who turns out to have been killed the night before he even met her! Reagan is then forced to put the puzzle together and help Monika with her revenge on the killers of her younger sister.

"All involved are very excited that we are doing this film," Monroe, who also directed It Waits, Complacent and House of 9, said. "For me to have the opportunity to write and direct, and then on top of that be a producer makes it all that much better. Though it was also a great project, this film is very different from I Spit on Your Grave. We are assembling a great cast for Hole In the Desert; Cerina Vincent is already onboard to play the tough, beautiful and vengeful Monika."

"I am just thrilled to be a part of this," says Vincent, known for her roles in such films as Cabin Fever and Not Another Teen Movie and last seen in Monroe's acclaimed Complacent.

"It's truly an honor to work with director Steven R. Monroe again. His script is incredible- it's got wit, edge, and depth... His vision for this will make for an edgy, sexy, suspenseful ride with moments of tenderness and some intense violence..."

Monroe says of Vincent, "This film is a departure from what people know of her and I am confident that she will be awesome".

Monroe says the rest of the cast will be revealed shortly and that the film will be completed the beginning of September 2011.

In the wake of SXSW last month, news of musical collaborations have started to trickle out, with fans discovering which acts were able to see past the endless BBQ and beers in order to talk shop. The latest project to come from Austin's epic meeting of the minds is a proposed collaboration between the Black Angels and Dum Dum Girls.

"[Dum Dum Girls' producer] Richard Gottehrer wants us to do some collaboration work with the Dum Dum Girls," Black Angels band leader Alex Maas tells Spinner. "Basically, he introduced me to [frontwoman] Dee Dee over SXSW. He was like, 'Oh, you guys should do a song together,' and so we might have a couple songs or a Black Angels/Dum Dum Girls split. We haven't even figured out if it'll be a cover or what, but we're picturing something sort of Shangri-Las-like."
