EXCLUSIVE: Interview With Concept Artist Jerad S. Marantz

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 09:38 AM PDT

With the recent release of Green Lantern and X-Men:First Class, we've seen a ton of concept art from those movies surface here at ComicBookMovie.com. The vast majority of that draw-dropping artwork has come from creature/character designer, Jerad S. Marantz. A vet in the concept art game, Marantz has worked on a lot more than those two films. His impressive resume includes Sucker Punch, Jonah Hex, Clash of the Titans, Nightmare on Elm Street, and many more video games and movies. Recently, I was able to catch up with Marantz and discuss his profession, what CBM movie he worked on that was never made, and what he's working on now. Interview conducted by Mark Julian for ComicBookMovie.com. All rights reserved, © Mark Julian. MJ: How did you get started as a concept artist for major movies? JM: I started off like most designers I know. I was a kid who

The Tragically Hip Ring in Canada Day With Weezer and Broken Social Scene

Whether they like it or not, the Tragically Hip are Canada's band. More precisely, for many national rock and roll fans, the Hip are Canada. In a country with few strong symbols on which to hang its identity, citizens tend to proselytize pop cultural signifiers into emblems of national consciousness: hockey, the coffee chain Tim Hortons and CanRock.

As much as they've tried to make it in other markets, Gord Downie and his band have remained flag-bearers for Canadian music -- often literally. Even at foreign festivals, Hip crowds tend to be whole seas of red and white. Seeing the Hip is basically a patriotic act, so when they assembled a Canada Day mini-fest at Toronto's Downsview Park it looked like a scene straight out of 'FUBAR': shirtless dudes draped in flags, police officers posing with Moosehead prop ears (somehow Molson missed the boat on sponsorship) and bleached blonde women in "Canadian Hottie" t-shirts.

Just wanted to ask which of these two metalhead movie franchises you like best? For me it's Bill & Ted by a hair ("Bogus Journey" is my favorite).

Where can I find this awesome movie?

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 04:30 AM PDT

r/movies, I saw a movie my freshman year of college in 2008. It is called "Sell Out!". It's a malaysian film, sort of a musical but also a comedy/dark comedy. It was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I got chills in the end!

I have NO idea where I can find this movie again. Apparently the DVD is coming out, but even if it does, it will only be in Malaysia.

How in the world can one go about acquire such a movie?

For your convenience, here are some links:

3:10 to Yuma - the significance of the railroad - [SPOILERS]

Posted: 02 Jul 2011 07:54 AM PDT

SPOILERS!!!

Not a recent movie, but I just watched it yesterday. I realized that the reason Dan Evans (Christian Bale) leaves the farm is because a railroad company is going to buy his land ... the solution is to work for a railroad company. Any thoughts on this and some deeper insight?

Also what did you make of the ending? I kind of found it weird that Ben Wade turned so quickly against his loyal friend. What did you think of that character in general?
