Posted: 19 Jul 2011 11:39 AM PDT

Hollywood "It Senior" Betty White is flattered by the invitation to attend the Marine Corps Ball, but unfortunately, Miss White regrets, she cannot attend, due to scheduling conflicts. The 89-year-old funny lady was asked by Sgt. Ray Lewis in a charming YouTube video that came after his fellow Marines, Sgt. Scott Moore and Corporal Kelsey De Santis asked Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake to the November gala.
White released a statement through her publicist, saying, "I am deeply flattered and truly appreciate the invitation. As everyone knows, I love a man in uniform... but unfortunately, I cannot accept, as I will be taping an episode of 'Hot in Cleveland.' Love, Betty White."

Joe Lee Wilson, Jazz Baritone, Dead at 75

David Redfern, Redferns

Joe Lee Wilson, a renowned jazz vocalist, passed away July 17 at age 75, the Guardian reports. A cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Though gifted with a graceful baritone voice to match the greats, he never joined them in crossing the precipice into mainstream fame, an endgame he was inclined to avoid. His swinging jazz and blues style afforded him brief popularity during the 1960s, especially on college campuses in the Northeast, and he shared the stage with many of the genre's greats, including Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis.

Prince is to headline a two-day event in Copenhagen -- and select the line-ups -- though in typically bizarre fashion, he seems to have left planning to the last minute.

Named after the Purple One's New Power Generation backing band, the NPG Music and Art Festival takes place at the Danish capital's 10-Oren venue over Aug. 6 and 7, yet the festival's website only appeared a month ago.

Prince is to headline both nights, with Chaka Khan also appearing twice, as does Nikka Costa. Raphael Saadiq and Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham play on Aug. 6, with Janelle Monae on the next day's bill.

Robert Kirkman Talks Walking Dead Season Two, Season Three, and Who Dies

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 10:46 AM PDT

Robert Kirkman recently spoke out about his hit creation, The Walking Dead and touched on a number of topics. Here's the best from his interview with E! News: On having 13 episodes for Season Two versus 6 for Season One: It is no problem at all to me, just because coming from comics I'm used to producing—for The Walking Dead I produce 12 comics a year and then I do three or four other comics on top of that. I guess it's somewhat daunting but I'm not even writing this stuff by myself. So it seems like it's a little bit easier. On whether Kirkman already has and ending for the show: Yeah, it's something we've discussed briefly. I would like to do the comic book for 15 more years or so—in comic books that's completely normal, not completely unheard of, but it's kind of unheard of for a show like this to go

Best Opening and Closing Songs in Film: Readers' Edition

Posted: 19 Jul 2011 02:00 PM PDT

Filed under:

Since we dropped our epic Best Opening Songs and Best Closing Songs in Film lists, we've had some very enthusiastic input from our readers, many beginning with a vigorous "How could you forget about ..." and punctuated with several exclamation marks. We're still sticking to our one-director-per-countdown rule, but we just couldn't resist rounding up the most popular opening and closing song picks from Spinner commenters. Pardon the spoilers, and let's get to it!
'Blue Velvet,' Bobby Vinton
'Blue Velvet'

MORE OPENING SONGS: David Lynch's 1986 film 'Blue Velvet' is your standard mystery -- that gets stranger, more twisted and perverted by the scene. Before college student Kyle MacLachlan (aka Agent Cooper of 'Twin Peaks') returns to his hometown and is instantly thrust into its secret, seedy world of psychotic criminals with violent fetishes, his father has a stroke to the happy, all-is-well 1963 pop hit by Bobby Vinton. The signature Lynch-ian distortion kicks in to the extreme close-up of a well-kept lawn, revealing sinister, swarming insects underneath. Voila! The tone is set.
