Archers of Loaf Show Their 'Mettle' With Reunion Tour, Reissue of Debut LP

Archers of Loaf may not be quite as iconic as Pavement or Guided by Voices, but throughout the '90s, the North Carolina foursome made rumpled, moody indie rock as well as anyone. Since the band's breakup in 1998, frontman and mastermind Eric Bachmann has continued making music, both as a solo artist and with Crooked Fingers, and in 2009, he traveled to Taiwan to teach English.

Earlier this year, the Archers played an unannounced show in Chapel Hill, and in August, they'll begin reissuing their back catalog -- four studio albums, starting with 1993's 'Icky Mettle' -- on Merge. Speaking with Spinner midway through this summer's reunion tour, Bachmann discussed reconnecting with his 20-year-old self, preserving the mystery of his lyrics and the possibility of a fifth Archers record.

How did the idea of reissuing your catalog come about, and how did you link up with Merge?

We're lucky to be friends from years ago with them. My stuff was in storage at the bass player's [Matt Gentling's] house. When I went to Taiwan, I left my guitars and things at his house. When I got back, he and I were talking, and the idea came up to do some shows. It happened organically that way. Shawn Nolan, the guy that manages the Archers, he was very adamant about -- and we agreed with him -- getting the albums out again, because they were hard to find. They weren't available through [former label] Alias anymore. Alias is licensing the records through Merge, and they're going to be re-released, which we're happy about. Touring as much as I tour, it's frustrating when people tell you they can't get your records anymore.

How to Defeat Your Own Clone Lands at Dimension Films

Dimension Films acquires How to Defeat Your Own Clone

Dimension Films announced today that it has acquired the rights to the popular futuristic comedy guidebook How to Defeat Your Own Clone written by Kyle Kurpinski and Terry D. Johnson. Ed Ricourt who wrote the feature treatment is also set to adapt the script. Ricourt was part of the Marvel writing program, and his script Now You See Me is currently in pre-production, starring Jesse Eisenberg and to be directed by Louis Leterrier. There is no director on Clone attached at this early stage. The announcement was made by Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC).

In the year 2013 the first human clone was created and within years clones were in most homes only to be taken advantage of by their human owners and treated as slaves. Following a revolution, civil war erupted between Mankind and their Clone creations who were fighting for their freedom. The Clones won. In this new world where Clones dominate, we follow Ethan on his quest to turn the tide of the war back in our favor against impossible odds. Clones may have the same DNA blueprint as humans, but they are younger, stronger, healthier and more evolved. Is Mankind prepared to outsmart and defeat their own clones?

How to Defeat Your Own Clone is being produced by Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Eric Robinson at The Gotham Group. Peter McHugh at The Gotham Group is Executive Producer. Overseeing for Dimension Films are SVP of Production, Matthew Stein and VP of Production and Creative Affairs, Matthew Signer.

"I'm excited to be working with Gotham and Ed Ricourt and feel this story has a fun and unique take on cloning that will be an entertaining movie for audiences," said Bob Weinstein.

"When I first found this book, I knew it had amazing potential for an exciting and unique film, and Ed Ricourt has delivered upon that potential. As a producer, I couldn't be more energized to be in business with Bob and my former colleagues at TWC/Dimension. This is the right home for this movie," said Eric Robinson of The Gotham Group.

The deal was negotiated for Dimension Films by Matthew Stein, Matthew Signer and Adrian Lopez, Director of Business and Legal; for The Gotham Group by George Davis at Nelson Davis Wetzstein LLP; for Ed Ricourt by CAA and George Davis at Nelson Davis Wetzstein LLP; and for Kyle Kurpinski and Terry D. Johnson by Justin Manask at Office for Literary Adaptation and Marcy Morris at Jackoway Tyerman. Ricourt is represented by CAA and The Gotham Group. CAA also represents The Gotham Group who produced Abduction, directed by John Singleton, which comes out later this year.

The modest mom wore her Ray-Ban shades with a black, one-piece bathing suit, smiling and laughing with her kids in the water.

There is speculation that Reese and new husband Jim Toth are expecting their first baby together... was Witherspoon sporting a one-piece to hide a small baby bump?

Daniel Radcliffe Admits to Recent Alcohol Problem

Posted: 05 Jul 2011 10:20 AM PDT

As his time as the boy wizard has ended, "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe confessed he indulged in the fast lane a little too much the past few years.
daniel-radcliffe.jpg
In an interview with the UK's GQ magazine, he revealed he has been sober since last summer, after realizing he was relying on alcohol to provide entertainment. "I became reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff... There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person's lifestyle that really isn't suited to me." Radcliffe, who will be 22 on July 23, said he began his habit in 2009 on the set of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," and felt pretty lucky none of the paparazzi ever caught him partying. "I really got away with that because there were so many instances when a paparazzi shot like that could have been taken," he told the magazine. At least the actor didn't follow the downward path, as many young Hollywood stars do, deciding he'd enough after filming the last "Potter" installment, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II." Check Out Memorable "Harry Potter" Quotes! "There's no shame in enjoying a quiet life," Radcliffe stated. "And that's been the realization of the past few years for me... As much as I would love to be a person who goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn't work for me. I'd just rather sit at home and read, or go out to dinner with someone, or talk to someone I love, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh." See how the "Harry Potter" journey ends when "The Deathly Hallows, Part II" opens in theaters July 15.

Captain America: The First Avenger Gets Title Change in Russia and South Korea

Captain America: The First Avenger gets a new title in Russia, Ukraine, and South Korea

Captain America: The First Avenger is gearing up for a worldwide release on July 22, although it will be released under a different title in Russia, Ukraine, and South Korea.

It is fairly typical for a studio to change the title of a movie for its overseas release. Most recently, The Hangover Part II was released under the title Very Bad Trip 2 in France. Paramount was planning on releasing Captain America: The First Avenger under the shortened title The First Avenger in most international territories. Surprisingly, the studio's international division balked at the move, insisting there is too much brand appeal for the movie, even in countries which aren't keen on promoting a patriotic American movie. Ultimately, Captain America: The First Avenger will keep its full title in every country except Russia, Ukraine, and South Korea.

The studio would not comment on why the title will be changed in those three particular countries, although insiders claimed that both Russia and Ukraine are international markets on the rise, and they didn't want to risk offending anyone with a title. As for South Korea, resentment over American military operations still runs deep to this day, which was the main reason for the title change.

It is also said that Captain America: The First Avenger might not be released at all in China. The country only allows 20 non-Chinese movies to be shown each year and, while an official announcement has not been made yet, it seems unlikely Captain America: The First Avenger will be screening in China.

Captain America: The First Avenger comes to theaters July 22nd, 2011 and stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

Schwarzenegger to Give Shriver a 'Very Generous Settlement'

Arnold Schwarzenegger is willing to give Maria Shriver a "very generous divorce settlement," going above and beyond what is required under California law, according to RadarOnline.

Top TV judge Jeanine Pirro tells "Extra," the state of California is "a fifty-fifty community property state," adding, "The Terminator has made a fortune... she gets half! She probably deserves it, too." It is estimated that the actor's fortune is worth $400-750 million.

A source reveals to RadarOnline, "Arnold realizes he is to blame for the collapse of his marriage. Maria was a loving wife and mother, and he doesn't think that any amount of money can minimize what he has put her through.

15 Most Expensive Celebrity Divorces

"This is going to be a very amicable divorce, and it won't be played out in the media. Neither one of them wants that. Arnold hasn't lost his mind, he is going to be giving away his fortune to her. He wants to show his children that he is taking responsibility for his actions."

The couple will have a private judge handle the divorce proceedings, which will help keep "details from leaking out, and things from getting nasty," the insider says.

Shriver, who filed the official papers on Friday, spent the holiday weekend in Barcelona with her kids.

CultsMartin Sanmiguel

They may offer a nod to fearsome Jonestown icon Jim Jones on their record and have a slightly creepy name, but there's nothing off-putting or diabolical about New York duo Cults. Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion -- partners both musically and romantically -- have quickly won the favour of just about anyone who has a penchant for dreamy, retro-flavoured indie-pop (including Lily Allen, whose label is behind the group's self-titled debut).

Spinner recently sat down with Cults during AOL's NXNE party at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto to talk about their foray into hip-hop, creepy cult leaders, and why they're just a couple of "control freaks." Oh, and we also got the lowdown on Follin's guest gig with iconic Canadian punks F---ed Up.

What movies have you loved, right up until the last 15 minutes when they ruin it? (spoilers? Duh?)

Personally, I hated the end to Shutter Island. It was exactly the ending that I didn't want the movie to have when I started watching. Just too generic.
