Marco Polo Series Finds a Home at Starz

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 09:03 AM PST

Starz acquires the new series Marco Polo

Marco Polo, the legendary pioneer and explorer from the 13th century, will have his tale told in an epic new scripted original series, as announced jointly by Starz, LLC, President and CEO Chris Albrecht, The Weinstein Company's Co-Chairman, Harvey Weinstein, and Electus Chairman and Founder, Ben Silverman.

Marco Polo is written and created by John Fusco (Hidalgo, Young Guns, Thunderheart, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron - Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay). It will be executive produced by Harvey and Bob Weinstein (The Weinstein Company); Ben Silverman (Electus), as well as Fusco.

Marco Polo is Fusco's fantastical martial arts epic, chronicling the famous adventurer's early years in the court of Kublai Khan. Acting as the ruler's spy, ambassador and explorer, Marco treks across the Far East and returns with tales of his journeys. In a court filled with political betrayal and forbidden relationships, Marco must use his martial arts training to survive, but it is his ability to enchant Khan with imaginative tales of his kingdom that is often his best tool to stay alive.

Starz Entertainment will own the exclusive license to the domestic premium pay TV rights and certain digital rights to the series for its flagship STARZ network, while Starz's Anchor Bay arm will distribute the property in the United States in home video. The Weinstein Company and Electus' global distribution arm Electus International control all remaining rights.

Albrecht commented on the latest addition to the Starz Original series lineup that "Marco Polo has captivated imaginations for centuries, and John's script brings this fantastical story to life. In addition to a remarkable story, we share a joint creative vision with our partners at The Weinstein Company and Electus to deliver a larger than life cinematic adventure for audiences in the United States and around the world."

"The stories and adventures of Marco Polo are timeless and we couldn't be more excited to work with Starz and Electus on this project," said Weinstein. "We look forward to beginning production next year on what is sure to be a fascinating, martial-arts filled telling of one of history's greatest explorers.

"We are thrilled to be able to work with an exceptional creative team to tell this amazing story in an updated and unique way," said Ben Silverman, Chairman and Founder of Electus. "Starz has been a tremendous partner in allowing us maximum creative freedom to bring audiences a fresh perspective on history and John Fusco, who lives and breathes this material, is uniquely qualified to bring this story to life."

Weinstein originally developed the idea and brought John Fusco on to write the script. It was then brought to Electus and together they delivered the project to Starz. John Fusco is represented by UTA and Anonymous Content.

She calls herself the "Rocker Clogger." Somewhere in Central Georgia, this 17-year-old with a penchant for the Cure, Siousxie and the Banshees, Adam Ant and David Bowie is clog-dancing her heart out to hits of yore. We love viral videos, so, naturally, we caught up with the teenage YouTube sensation to talk '80s music and, of course, clogging.

Her dad built the wooden stage in the grassy backyard, and her mom helps her with the outfits -- a theatrical mix of playful, dark glam and young, DIY rocker chic. The rest -- the choreography, the energy, the "I Gotta Be Me" attitude, the love of music -- that's all Rocker Clogger. Check out some of her videos below.

She announced her intention to split with her husband, Barry Herridge, in the same fashion that she has shared every other detail of her life in recent months, minute or momentous -- via the Internet. The breakup comes after a particularly harrying week for O'Connor, in which she overdosed on pills, broke her ankle, and issued a cry for psychiatric help on Twitter.

Concerning her marriage, the Irish singer wrote on her blog, "The behaviour of one particular paper resulted in very serious damage to my husband and myself personally and consequently made the marriage untenable so that it is now over and I hope the media will kindly leave the poor man alone to get on with his life."

Would You Kick Brad Out of Bed for Eating Crackers?

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 10:46 AM PST

International superstar Brad Pitt recently confessed to W Magazine that he's "not much of a crier at films, but I'll tear up every now and then."

brad-pitt-w-cover.jpg

Pitt, who was photographed eating crackers in a luxurious bed, told the magazine that "Life as a House" had him grabbing for the Kleenex while he was stuck in a hotel room with a stomach bug.

The "Moneyball" star said, "Kevin Kline is an architect and learns he has terminal cancer. He's estranged from his teenage son and decides they're going to finish this house together."

brad-pitt-inside.jpg

Pitt continued, "I don't know if it would still hit me the same way, but on my 27th hour of pure wretchedness, this movie just crushed me."

Here are some highlights from the interview...

Have his parents seen him die in a movie?
"They would have to. I die really well, by the way. It's one of my strong points. I just take a bullet well."

Does Brad have trouble watching himself die?
"God, no. I'm just checking the boxes. Hit that. Missed that. Hit that moment. Missed that one. God, I'd like to do that one again."

What was the first role he auditioned for?
"My agent sent me out for two films. One of them was 'The Accused' with Jodie Foster. I was so excited."

Did he go out for the part of the rapist?
"Probably not. With this face, I was probably up for the guy with the conscience. I called up afterward and asked, 'How did I do?' There were three seconds of silence and then: 'Have you ever thought about acting classes?'"

Heather Locklear's Parents Say She's 'Just Fine'

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 10:15 AM PST

Actress Heather Locklear was listed in "medically stable" condition at a Thousand Oaks, Calif., hospital Thursday after being rushed there by ambulance.

heather-locklear.jpg

The "Melrose Place" star, 50, was taken to the hospital after the fire department and sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 from her sister. Reports say Heather may have mixed alcohol and prescription drugs.

A spokeswoman for Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center told "Extra" Thursday, "Heather is resting comfortably. She is medically stable and will spend the night. Her parents want all of Heather's fans to know she is in no danger and they thank everyone for their prayers."

"She's going to be just fine," Locklear's parents, Bill and Diane Locklear, said in a statement Friday.

This is not the first time Locklear has had a medical emergency for which 911 responded. In 2008, her doctor felt she was "suicidal" and the TV star entered treatment for anxiety and depression.

Locklear was spotted partying with friends Tuesday at an L.A. Lakers game. She recently called off her engagement to soap star Jack Wagner.
