Ellen DeGeneres on Her Birthday, JCPenney and Brad Pitt's House Posted: 25 Jan 2012 11:13 AM PST "Extra's" Mario Lopez chatted with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres about her big plans for her birthday, teaming up with JCPenney... and buying Brad Pitt's home! Jimmy Kimmel will be co-hosting "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Thursday, for Ellen's birthday extravaganza. She explained, "He's going to be co-hosting, so I don't have to work so hard on my birthday... Earth, Wind & Fire is going to be the house band." And how will DeGeneres be celebrating with wife Portia de Rossi? "Her birthday is the 31st, so we're just a few days apart. We usually do a joint thing. We did one big party one year, but it's going to be quiet. I've been working extra hard lately." Ellen's hard work includes recently signing up with JCPenney. She said, "I'm going to be doing some things in the store. I'm going to have a lot of creative things to do with the store. And then I've shot five commercials. I'm wearing a dress in one!" Ellen also revealed her first job was working at a JCPenney's. "I sold clothes in the women's department," she laughed. "And rehung things when people put them in the wrong place. I was like, 'How does that look like that would go there?'" As for buying Pitt's lovely Malibu house, Ellen described the process. "We were negotiating, yes. He was trying to sell it. I was trying to buy it. He was higher. I was lower," jokingly adding, "I was like... give me a break!" Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst Fights Efforts to Stop Omaha Anti-Bias Law Posted: 25 Jan 2012 01:30 PM PST Filed under: News, New Releases Tim Mosenfelder, Getty Images Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and other Omaha musicians signed a Jan. 23 letter demanding Nebraska lawmakers stop a law that would prevent the city and other towns from passing anti-discrimination legislation. The musicians feel the law would send a "message to the world that Nebraska is not forward thinking or welcoming." According to The Omaha World-Herald, Oberst and the other artists said it was "deplorable and unacceptable" to try to stop Omaha City Councilman Ben Gray from moving forward on an ordinance to ban discrimination against homosexual and transgender people. The letter was sent to state senators on Judiciary Committee of the state legislature. "We were excited to learn that Councilman Ben Gray was going forward to put forth a citywide ordinance that would ensure equal employment opportunity for all, including our LGBT community," the letter says.

'CSI': 'Extra' Interrogates Marg Helgenberger on Final Episode Posted: 25 Jan 2012 11:23 AM PST "CSI" star Marg Helgenberger arrived to The Grove to talk about her final episode on the crime series. The actress revealed, "What I can tell you is that I do somehow end up in the autopsy room in a body bag on the slab." Helgenberger, who just received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, will be replaced by "Leaving Las Vegas" actress Elizabeth Shue. When Mario Lopez asked if Marg would return to the show for cameos, Helgenberger replied, "The producers said, 'Please, you know we've left the door wide open if we write a special episode or two, would you be willing to come back?' and I said, 'Why not?' Come on, it's the best job I've ever had!" Speaking of some tough gigs she's had in the past, Marg recalled the days she worked as a boner. The actress turned to the crowd, and said, "By the way, nasty people, I hear you whispering and gasping. It's a legitimate term, boner." After Lopez asked what she meant, Marg explained, "It was a meat packing plant! I worked in a meat packing plant! Anybody who, like, trims the fat off of beef to shape it into... in my case, it was tenderloins." She laughed, "Whoo! I got that out!"
