Tarsem Singh Wants to Direct Live-Action Samurai Jack

Tarsem Singh wants to direct live-action Samurai Jack

While doing press rounds for this weekend's Immortals, director Tarsem Singh was asked if he'd ever tackle the superhero genre. Tarsem explained that this did not interest him, but, in the same breath, revealed that his dream project at the moment is a live-action version of the Emmy-winning animated series Samurai Jack, which aired for three season on Cartoon Network starting in 2001.

Here is what the director had to say.

"I love Samurai Jack. I would love to direct that. It's brilliant. The speed, it embraces where it comes from. I find that comic strip films are halfway grounded. They don't play my chord. But I love Samurai Jack. I love the animation."

A live-action Samurai Jack movie was set up at New Line Cinema in the early 2000s, with Brett Ratner attached at the helm. The rights has since reverted back to Cartoon Network.

Tarsem Singh's next project after the Snow White themed Mirror Mirror will actually be a talking head drama not unlike My Dinner with Andre. But its very well possible that we could see a Samurai Jack sometime after that.

Barry Pepper Boards Snitch

Posted: 12 Nov 2011 09:00 AM PST

Barry Pepper takes two roles while waiting for Lone Ranger

Actor Barry Pepper is using the extra time allotted by the delay of what was supposed to be his next film, Lone Ranger, to star in two very different films.

First up, Barry Pepper has taken on a role in New Regency's Broken City for director Allen Hughes. He will then star in Ric Roman Waugh's action drama Snitch. Both films are shooting simultaneously in New Orleans.

In Broken City, the actor will play a closeted councilman opposite Russell Crowe and Mark Wahlberg in this thriller about a Brooklyn detective tasked with identifying a politician's wife's secret lover. Then, in Snitch, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Barry Pepper will play a DEA agent that helps a father free his son after being wrongfully incarcerated.

After shooting both Snitch and Broken City back-to-back, Barry Pepper will then move onto star opposite Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in Lone Ranger.

Broken City comes to theaters January 18th, 2013 and stars Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film is directed by Allen Hughes.

Snitch comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Susan Sarandon. The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh.

Guess what movie this is from... (come on now, you have to look I know some fans out there)

Russell Brand to star in The President Stole My Girlfriend

Russell Brand will star in and produce the new comedy The President Stole My Girlfriend for Warner Bros.

Matt Portenoy, who recently finished a well-received draft of the long-in-development Porky's remake, has written this screenplay, which, according to Russell Brand, was inspired by the night he invited Warner Bros. The project is the first set up under Russell Brand's Branded Films banner, and he will produce alongside creative partner Nik Linnen.

When a terrorist bombing destroys the Kremlin, the United States government initiates a black ops "ghost protocol" and disavows the entire Impossible Mission Force. Ethan Hunt and his team are to be blamed for the attack, but are allowed to escape as part of a plan to enable them to operate in the dark, outside of their agency. However, Hunt is warned that if any member of his team is captured during their mission, they will be charged as terrorists planning to incite global nuclear war. Ethan is then forced to work with ex-IMF agent Brandt, who knows more about Hunt and his past than even Hunt himself.
