The Lord of the Rings Trilogy to Be Converted for 3D Says Elijah Wood

Posted: 23 Nov 2011 09:53 AM PST

Elijah Wood says The Lord of the Rings trilogy may be converted to 3D

It's no secret that converting classics into 3D is in vogue, with new versions of Titanic, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and Beauty and the Beast hitting theaters in 3D next year. Actor Elijah Wood revealed that The Lord of the Rings producers are actively talking about converting the entire trilogy into 3D for new theatrical releases.

Here's what the actor had to say below.

"I think it would be cool to see. There's talk of releasing a dimensionalised trilogy eventually. I'm okay with doing post-process 3D, as long as someone takes the time. What I'm upset about is when a movie doesn't have the budget and the time to devote to it and they're not fine-tuning the detail of that, because it can look really bad and cheap. But I know that they wouldn't dimensionalise it unless it was a super meticulous process."

The actor also made note of his frustration that Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and the prequel trilogy is being converted into 3D before the original trilogy.

"I mean, Titanic's coming out in 3D now, and Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which means we have to wait three movies to get to the fucking good shit, it's unbelievable, I'm like, we have to wait three years for that? You're doing Episode I first? [frustrated squeal], what a bummer!"

Elijah Wood also talked about his cameo in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and how he got back into character as Frodo Baggins.

"Before we started, I watched Fellowship again, just to remember the way that he spoke. Outside of that it was revisiting something I'd spent the better part of four years playing, and it was just a joy. It felt like a giant family reunion in a way. The weirdest thing was being on set, looking down at my feet and it just feeling oddly normal, like, 'Here we are, doing another scene at Bag End, 10 years later.'"

It isn't known when The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers, and The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King may hit theaters in 3D, although the 3D conversion hasn't been officially announced yet.

The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring was released December 19th, 2001 and stars Alan Howard, Elijah Wood, Noel Appleby, Sean Astin, Sala Baker, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers was released December 18th, 2002 and stars Bruce Allpress, Sean Astin, John Bach, Sala Baker, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Billy Boyd, Jed Brophy. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King was released December 17th, 2003 and stars Noel Appleby, Alexandra Astin, Sean Astin, David Aston, John Bach, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The eight episodes will shoot in Scotland, London and Morocco and air on Cinemax in 2012. Also starring Adam Rayner (Hawthorne), the series is produced by Kudos Film & Television (Life on Mars) for BBC One and HBO/Cinemax in association with Big Light Productions.

Kenneth Branagh Shares More Of His Thoughts On Patty Jenkins Directing Thor 2

Posted: 23 Nov 2011 09:17 AM PST

Kenneth Branagh sat down with Vulture to talk about his upcoming film My Week With Marilyn. In the interview Branagh was once again asked about Patty Jenkins taking his place as director for the upcoming sequel to his smash Summer hit, Thor, saying that he hasn't spoken to her but they have exchanged letter on good sentiments. He also, unlike Mickey Rourke, talked about what a joyful collaboration it was to work with the people at Marvel. Said Branagh: "We haven't spoken, we've exchanged letters, really just saying "well done" and "how thrilling." I think it's a great choice and I'm really excited about that, and I think Marvel have always been so imaginative about the way they match these projects with directors who may have very particular things to bring to them but may not be superficially a natural kind of fit. But my gut tells me this is a tremendous choice,

Lenny Kravitz Talks Diversity, Influences and His 'Happiest' Album on Sessions

Lenny KravitzJoseph Llanes for AOL

You would be hard-pressed to find a musician and songwriter more gifted than Lenny Kravitz. Over the course of nine studio albums, the 47-year-old native New Yorker has wowed fans and critics alike with a dazzling blend of funk, soul, rock, folk, reggae, gospel and even some '70s-kissed heavy metal. Kravitz first hit the scene with 'Let Love Rule,' his 1989 debut album, a self-produced affair that had journalists comparing him to the Beatles and Sly Stone in the same breath. Since then, he's sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and won the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance four years in a row, from 1999 to 2002.

On his latest album, 'Black and White America,' Kravitz goes back to his childhood and growing up biracial after the civil rights movement of the late '60s and early '70s. Reflecting the period's musical landscape, Kravitz hones in on the earthier side of his influences with jazzy bass lines, rave-up horn charts and some of the most impassioned vocal performances of his career. The day before he was set to guest star at a stadium show with U2, Kravitz stopped by AOL's Beverly Hills studios for a Sessions performance. After he and his world-class band rocked out songs from 'Black and White America' and his back catalog, Kravitz sat down for an interview where he talked about the new album, his fiercely independent attitude and growing up biracial.
