First Trailer For Joss Whedon & Drew Goddard's THE CABIN IN THE WOODS

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 10:07 AM PST

This has been a long time coming. After hearing about the mysterious horror project from producer/writer Joss Whedon and director Drew Goddard it seemed to sort of fade away for quite a while. Then suddenly we had a teaser poster and now a full theaterical trailer too. Have a looksee but skip it if you want to know nothing at all about the plot.. Hmmm. Seems like there could be a bit of a sci-fi element there too. It certainly looks interesting, and seems to be hinging on us accepting that although it looks just like every other type of movie of it's ilk out there that it will be something different. I still don't think it looks particularly good though! How bout you guys? The Cabin in the Woods is scheduled for release in US theaters April 13th, 2012. And there are prequel comic book adaptations in the pipeline too. By

Cyndi Lauper Dishes on 'Women Who Rock' and Arguing With Paul Simon Over the Rock Hall's Gender Issues

"Girls just wanna have fun, but some of us wanna be in a rock band too!" So said Cyndi Lauper when she hosted the new PBS documentary 'Women Who Rock.' Packed with classic concert footage, artist interviews and intelligent commentary, the film pays tribute to the women who invented rock and roll, shaped it and pushed its boundaries.

Because the release of 'Women Who Rock' coincides with the opening of an exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame focusing on women, it seems that women in rock may finally be getting the respect they deserve. We talked with Lauper about the women who inspired her, how things have changed for women in music and her advice for girls who just wanna have Platinum hits.

When did you realize you wanted to be a musician?

I always sang. I wanted to be in a band with my sister, and I was, at 11. At 12, I started writing seriously, and that was my pacifier all through high school -- that and painting.

When you say "pacifier," you mean it helped you get through some hard times?

Yeah, it helped me. It helped me a lot. Then seeing Joni Mitchell, who was the first woman I saw that I really related to. She was somebody that painted and somebody that wrote and made her own clothes.

Was I the only person who did not enjoy A Christmas Story?

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 10:16 AM PST

Keep in mind that I'm not trying to start a flame war. Around this time every year that movie seems to crop up around the internet and on tv, and around this time every year I am reminded how beloved it is. The general public enjoys it enough to warrant a 24-hour marathon of it, I see phrases such as "upvote/like/whatever anything A Christmas Story," and even my own family forces me to watch it at least once when everyone is together for the holidays.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that it's a flat-out bad movie. I can see how some of the scenes and lines are funny, though I suppose I just find the whole thing over the top and lowbrow.

tl;dr: Does anyone else not love this Christmas classic?

Am I late to the party here? Because Kick-Ass rocked my world. It's a deconstruction of the medium and an actual, honest to goodness comic book movie all at the same time, and I'm amazed it pulled both off so well

So I watched Chinatown for the first time last night.

I understand that this film is regarded one of the greatest of all time, nominated for & winning multiple awards. I can say that for the most part I did enjoy it, however.. I'm not sure I feel I was blown away. Did I miss something here? I really love Film Noir and want to appreciate it in it's fullest. Help me out here, film buffs.

THE AVENGERS Star Cobie Smulders Reveals Major Spoiler for Agent Maria Hill!

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 09:40 AM PST

In an interview with Vulture Cobie Smulders seems to reveal a major spoiler, which is that her character will have superpowers. This is news to me, and at first I thought it was just a typo. If it's not a typo than this is a major departure from the comic book character. In the Marvel universe she has never had any superpowers. This is the first possible sign that Joss Whedon is tinkering with the Marvel universe, and I'm interested to see how the fans react. What follows is an excerpt from Cobie Smulders interview with nymag.com You're also getting into action with Joss Whedon's The Avengers. Before he cast you in that, he said he was considering you for a Wonder Woman project. So he's clearly a fan. Did he ever tell you why? No! If he did, I would throw up in my mouth. I mean, the Wonder Woman thing was

Robert Downey Jr. on 'Sherlock' Sequel: 'It's Better Than the First'

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 11:21 AM PST

Robert Downey Jr., star of "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," sat down with "Extra's" Jerry Penacoli, and said, "This is actually better than the first. I've heard that happens with sequels every once and a while... not very often."

robert-downey-jr.jpg

Robert, who is going to be a father again with wife Susan Downey, revealed he knows the sex and name of his baby, but added, "[Susan] told me that I will lose my tongue if I share it before she's ready."

The actor, who might have been a bit too honest, said, "[Susan's] huge! Is she huge? Don't tell her that! Most gals say, 'Oh my God, you're barely showing.' But she's kind of a tiny person, so to me... she's expanded."

Downey, who made a speech at the American Cinematheque Awards in October, asked the public to forgive his good friend Mel Gibson. Downey, 46, told Penacoli, "I think it's always embarrassing to show someone that you're a friend and you love them, in public. So, I think he [Gibson] was probably a little surprised."

Part two of the action-packed adventure for "Sherlock Holmes" begins Dec. 16.
