Exitmusic's Aleksa Palladino Dishes on Juggling Music and 'Boardwalk Empire' Posted: 28 Dec 2011 02:00 PM PST Filed under: News, Exclusive, RPM, Television, Q + A Secretly Canadian Spinner recently had the pleasure of catching up with Palladino about life on the road, juggling careers and the romantic story behind her courtship. How was the recent tour? It was amazing, actually. Really great. We have a lot to get into right away. We're finishing up our album, so it's good to get home and actually get right to work. We're three-fourths into it, so it's still taking shape. We're still exploring what the final tracks on it will be, so it's hard to really know what it's gonna be. That's kind of what makes it fun, to have to still write it. If we knew what the rest of it was gonna be, it'd probably be more of a job than an exploration. |

Does Ashton Kutcher Have a New Girlfriend? Posted: 28 Dec 2011 10:04 AM PST "Two and a Half Men" star Ashton Kutcher spent Christmas in Italy with a new woman, screenwriter Lorene Scafaria, tweeting pics of the vacation. According to UsWeekly, the actor, 33, and Scafaria, also 33, spent time checking out the sights, including the Tower of Pisa, and they were spotted having lunch, where they "held hands," a witness told Us. "They shared spaghetti, and he paid." Reps for both Kutcher and Scafaria, who recently split with actor Adam Brody, deny any romantic involvement, stating, "They're just friends." Meanwhile, Kutcher's estranged wife, Demi Moore, spent the holidays with family in Parrot Cay, a private resort in Turks & Caicos. She filed for divorce in November. |

Interview With Writer/Director Of BOY WONDER Michael Morrissey Posted: 28 Dec 2011 08:41 AM PST A while ago I came across the poster for a movie called Boy Wonder, and was instantly curious about both the title and the image of the main character all brooding and face painted. Very super heroish right? So I watched the movie and was very impressed indeed, although it was nothing like I was expecting at all. Boy Wonder is a dark tale of revenge and obsession with a sting in the tail. It features top notch performances from a relatively unknown cast, as well as a very assured directorial debut from Michael Morrissey who also wrote the script, and was good enough to have a little chat with me about the film. CBM: So you wrote and directed Boy Wonder; was it a project you had been working on for a long time? And when it came time to get a studio behind it how did you fare initially? MM: I |

Cheetah of 'Tarzan' Fame Dead at 80 Posted: 28 Dec 2011 09:36 AM PST Cheetah, best known as the chimpanzee sidekick to Tarzan in the classic 1930s films, died Saturday of kidney failure. He was believed to be 80 years old. Also known as Cheetah-Mike, "Cheeta" and was one of several chimps who appeared in the films from 1932 to 1934, with swimmer Johnny Weissmuller in the starring role. After living on Weissmuller's estate for many years, Cheetah retired to Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Florida. "It is with great sadness that the community has lost a dear friend and family member," the sanctuary announced this week on its website. Chimpanzees live an average of 45 years in the wild, and captive chimps have an average lifespan of 60 years. Actress Mia Farrow, whose mother, Maureen O'Sullivan, starred as Jane in the Tarzan films, took to Twitter to remember the animal. "Cheetah the chimp in Tarzan movies died this week at 80," she wrote, adding, "My mom, who played Jane, invariably referred to Cheetah as 'that bastard.'" The chimp was jealous of O'Sullivan's relationship with Weissmuller. |

Matthew Sweet Celebrates the 20 Years of 'Girlfriend,' Honors Alex Chilton Posted: 28 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST Filed under: Exclusive, New Music, Q + A Matthew Sweet Which of the songs on 'Modern Art' jump out the most to you? There's a song, 'When Love Lets Go I'm Falling,' that has a special memory for me. When I was singing the song, recording the song, that's when my wife came in and told me that Alex Chilton had died. It's a moody song and it has a lot of influence from him. I learned to get into all of my emotion in high school by being a big fan of Big Star records so that one is really special. But I like them all. I got into Big Star being a fan of the dB's, Mitch Easter and Let's Active -- those guys were really into Big Star. To me, Alex Chilton was like the John Lennon of America Did you know him well? I met him a couple of times but we didn't really know each other. I know the drummer, Jody Stephens, we're still friends. They performed the entire 'Third/Sister Lover' album last spring in New York and I was asked to sing a couple of songs. That was an incredible experience. |
Chris Martin Ejects Trespasser From His Garden Posted: 28 Dec 2011 11:10 AM PST Filed under: News Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images "I had a guy the other day who climbed over the gate of our house and started singing Coldplay songs to his friends on the street," Martin told the Daily Mirror. The trespasser scaled his wall and planted himself in the garden before he began to belt several of the songs from the singers oeuvre. |
'Extremely Close' to Sandra Bullock Posted: 28 Dec 2011 08:36 AM PST Actress Sandra Bullock didn't know if she wanted to go back to work after the whirlwind of the last few years, which included a Best Actress win for "The Blind Side," adopting a baby boy -- and a very public divorce from "Monster Garage" host Jesse James. "I was perfectly content to be permanently broken," Bullock told the Associated Press, then explains that by "broken," she means a break from work. She continued, "I honestly didn't think I was in a place where I wanted to work or wanted to step out of where I was. I wasn't prepared." But when director Stephen Daldry called to ask her to play a small but pivotal role in "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" as the mother of a precocious child trying to make sense of his father's death on 9/11, Bullock couldn't say no. She explained, "The opportunity was louder than my head." "What a great way to get back on the horse," said the Oscar winner, who was staying at a hotel 20 blocks from the World Trade Center on 9/11. "It was hard, but it was what it's supposed to be." "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" is now receiving Oscar buzz. Sandra and her son, Louis, vacationed with her family in Wyoming over Christmas. She told "Extra" that Louis has her seeing the holidays in a whole new way. "It's a whole different time when you do it for the kids." Back on the acting track, Sandra recently finished shooting the highly anticipated "Gravity," a space thriller co-starring George Clooney. |
COMICS: First Crossover Event For DC's The New 52 Reveals A Change In Policy Posted: 28 Dec 2011 06:07 AM PST Source: Newsarma I think everyone knew a crossover event from the DC New 52 would happen at some point however, I bring news that DC just might be changing how crossover events are handled. The first such event pits two of DC's top monsters, OMAC and Frankenstein against one another in what is sure to be a knock-down-drag-out fight of epic proportions. However, what's intriguing about this news is the fact that while the story will be covered in both O.M.A.C. #5 and Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #5, the two titles will merely complement one another. Instead of being required reading, the two titles will merely tell the same story from two different viewpoints. Said Kieth Giffens, who co-writes OMAC with Dan DiDio, "One of the things I'm proudest of about this Frankenstein-O.M.A.C. crossover is that I think we're doing it right," he said. "We're doing it in such a |

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 07:59 AM PST I feel so sheltered and stupid for having not heard / recognized the music of Ortolani before it was recently included in the Drive soundtrack (which was a great soundtrack in itself). I've since listened to the score of Cannibal Holocaust and a few others. Amazing stuff. Who are your favorite composers that have been forgotten or overlooked/undervalued by Hollywood? If you could recommend one soundtrack by that person to someone who's eager to expand their horizons, what would it be? [link] [comment] |
