Independent films need audience support...

Just a brief post about indie films. It's increasingly tough to get them made these days and getting tougher when films come out, which are fantastic and garner great reviews, but "tank" at the box office. I have been on a movie binge, and, as I work in the business, I reach out to the producers afterwards and it's a constant refrain - thanks, but the movie is doing no business.

In the past couple of weeks, I have seen some GREAT movies - maybe not all of them are everyone's cup o'tea - but there's a real diversity right now.

I know how difficult it was to get the go ahead and money to make Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I saw it last night and it was so damn good - great cast, twisting plot - entertaining. For those who don't know - same director of Let the Right One in (if you liked that).

Other movies I have seen in the past few weeks and IMO are well-worth seeing if the premise sounds intriguing to you: Young Adult, We Need to Talk About Kevin, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Take Shelter.

Anyhoo - if you are going to the movies - there's a lot to choose from right now and it actually makes a difference when audiences see these movies.

I shall not prattle on. Just wanted to be a cheerleader for a few minutes this morning. Have a great day, Movies.

Did anyone else get strangely turned on by The Tree of Life? I don't know how to explain it, but the movie was a huge turn on. Just wondering if anyone else had the same reaction. It may have been due to all of the earth porn in it...

I understand that it was made for American audiences and therefore in English, but all the actors had a British-ish accent. Maybe someone's idea of what Americans think of as a generic European accent?

Hey, just making an observation. I enjoyed it and thought it was a great movie. I'm sorry if my initial statements came off as disparaging. I do think it would have enhanced the experience for me if the accents were French, but I ain't all hatin'.

I just got Sling Blade on blu-ray and Dwight Yoakam does an unbelievably good job playing an angry, alcoholic, redneck asshole. I mean Oscar worthy!

Check out this short clip. Doyle (Dwight Yoakam) apologizes for his drunken behavior while continuing to be a complete jerk.

Singer Rihanna had to run off the stage in the middle of her "Loud" concert in Portugal, after falling ill.

Watch the footage, in which you can see the usually energetic performer "What's My Name" moving lethargically through a number.

After the show, she clarified what happened on Twitter, writing, "i ran off stage to throw up, halfway thru Whats My Name... made it back juuuust in time for RudeBoy."
