Is Platoon an accurate representation of the Vietnam War?

Posted: 24 Dec 2011 10:00 AM PST

I'm sincerely asking, especially if you were in the Vietnam War, or know anyone that has. Please excuse my naiveté but I honestly have never received a very accurate description of what the Vietnam War (or war in general) is like.

Is there a name for the film/TV trope of average citizens being incredibly aware of news bulletins?

Posted: 24 Dec 2011 08:06 AM PST

I'm thinking mostly in the context of escape/fugitive movies. People always seem very up to date on news bulletins.

I'm watching Prison Break right now, and it seems like every other person the fugitives encounter recognizes them. I just find it hard to believe a teenage waitress or mid-night worker at Rite-Aid could spot a fugitive (especially one without a really weird/memorable face.)

Funniest modern movies

Posted: 24 Dec 2011 09:04 AM PST

I want to watch some movies with my girlfriend tonight and I was wondering if you guys could tell me some good funny movies. I'm especially looking for movies with a little over the top humor like for example the scary movie series or most of the movies of Leslie Nielsen.

Thanks in advance reddit!

RESULTS: Will You Watch MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS In 3D?

Posted: 24 Dec 2011 08:41 AM PST

If there's one thing that moviegoers seem to be sick of, it's 3D. The higher ticket prices are a pain, but the ever increasing amount of poor quality post-converted movies is an even bigger problem. Since the release of the record breaking Avatar in 2009, studios have taken every opportunity they can to make even more money by offering up their releases in the format and Marvel Studios are unfortunately no different. Both THOR and Captain America: The First Avenger were released in 3D and neither wowed audiences despite a handful of scenes which benefited. Next year, it's the turn of Marvel's The Avengers 3D (as it's now officially called), but will you see it in 2D or 3D? Here's what you decided. Considering just how unpopular 3D has become, it's a little surprising to see how many voters were seemingly pleased with the decision to release The Avengers in the
