Hero Dog Awards to Air on the Hallmark Channel

Hero Dog Awards to air this November on The Hallmark Channel

We all know of course that every dog has his day -- and this is it. Presented exclusively on Hallmark Channel Friday, November 11 (8p.m. ET/PT, 7C), the inaugural American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards, presented by Cesar Canine Cuisine for the first time celebrates the special relationship between canine and human and to recognize extraordinary acts of heroism performed by ordinary dogs.

A search involving more than 400,000 ballots cast in support of hundreds of dogs throughout the United States was pared to eight winners in categories including Law Enforcement and Arson Dogs; Service Dogs; Therapy Dogs; Military Dogs; Guide Dogs; Search and Rescue Dogs; Hearing Dogs, and Emerging Hero Dogs (paying tribute to ordinary dogs rising to do the extraordinary).

The winner of the top prize of American Hero Dog for 2011, a guide dog named Roselle, was honored for having led her blind master down 78 flights of steps at the World Trade Center following the 9/11 attacks. She passed away this past summer but was remembered with the biggest award in an emotional ceremony with her owner, Michael Hingson.

Hosted by Carson KressleyQueer Eye), the 90-minute Hallmark Channel Original Special World Premiere will also feature presenters Betty White, Paula Abdul, Faith Ford, Julianne Hough, Michael Vartan, Peter Fonda, and many others.

The Hero Dog Awards illustrate something we have known for thousands of years: What dogs regularly do for us far exceeds anything we could ever give them. Paying them homage for their boundless courage and loyal support is not only richly deserved; it's also the right thing to do.

Ladytron Attribute Their Longevity to Lack of Mainstream Success

LadytronNettwerk Records

Ten years into perfecting their icy brand of electro-pop, Liverpool quartet Ladytron have not only outlived the many imitators and various permutations of the genre briefly known as electroclash, but have also left their distinctive mark on a sound that has mushroomed despite once seeming destined to be little more than a passing fad.

Five albums into an intriguing career that's seen them score bona fide hits with the pulsating beats of 'Seventeen' and the epic build of 'Destroy Everything You Touch,' these days Ladytron seem far more interested in making music for themselves rather than dancefloor DJs.

That's not to say they're not still working within a synth-soaked template on their new (and aptly named) album, 'Gravity the Seducer,' but the band's usual metal-sleek beatscape has mellowed into something a little more quixotic, with gauzy instrumentals (autoharp, bells, organ, and violin lend an elegant, almost orchestral bent) sitting alongside hookier tracks like first single 'Ace of Hz.'

Spinner caught up with Ladytron vocalist Mira Aroyo as the band was rehearsing in London for their North American tour, which kicked off last week and continues throughout October.

This new album has that characteristic Ladytron sound, but also brings a certain stately new element to the mix -- were you consciously thinking about going for a different sound?

It's a mixture of both. We knew that we wanted to create a certain atmosphere, a lusher sort of record. That's how we started thinking about it. I think what came out was a different sort of pop album, so to speak. No matter how much you plan, songs have a tendency to take on a life of their own.

'Footloose' Stars Hough and Wormald Are 'Huge Fans' of the Original

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 10:51 AM PDT

The stars of the dance reboot "Footloose" joined "Extra's" Renee Bargh at The Grove to proclaim their love for the original. Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough declared they are "huge fans," with Wormald saying, "If you grow up dancing and you don't see that movie, you're crazy!"

When Renee asked if they felt the pressure to live up to the original -- which was a massive hit -- Julianne replied, "I think it was more responsibility rather than pressure." Kenny, 27, laughed, "And we didn't want to piss off all the soccer moms, so we knew what we had to do."

The dancing duo will show off their moves on next week's "Dancing with the Stars." Kenny revealed, "We're gonna perform a little duet and maybe a part of 'Footloose' will come on. We can't give it all away, but it's gonna be pretty insane."

The remake also stars newcomers Ziah Colon of "Drop Dead Diva," and Miles Teller, who played Jason in Nicole Kidman's "Rabbit Hole."

Move to the groove with "Footloose," waltzing into theaters Oct. 14.

Pete Doherty Avoids Jail Sentence After Being Ruled Too Drunk to Commit Crime

Pete Doherty's life seems a patchwork of the highest highs and the lowest lows, and his latest misadventure proves a definite coupling of the two. According to NME, the former Libertines frontman admitted to having smashed a shop window in Regensburg, Germany but denied any felonious activity. Doherty was charged with stealing a guitar and several records from the shop in March but pleaded innocent, claiming he couldn't remember stealing anything on account of being too drunk.

Apparently that excuse holds it's water in court; prosecutors are dropping the charges agreeing that Doherty was indeed too inebriated to have committed the crime. The ruling is a tragically lucky break for Doherty who was released from prison earlier this summer after doing time for cocaine possession. He would have faced five more years in prison had he been convicted of the theft.

VIDEO GAMES: First Few Reviews For Spider-Man: Edge Of Time Hit And They're Actually Good!

If a game is good, you'll often see plenty of reviews praising it in the weeks before it's released. However, if the developers have produced a flop, you can all but guarantee that they won't turn up until well after it hits shelves. (I doubt that there's a gamer out there who hasn't been caught out like this!) Available to purchase as of right now in the US, the lack of reviews may have left you worried. Well, thanks again to Metacritic, we have a brief compilation of the first three reviews for Spider-Man: Edge of Time, and in a pleasant turn of events, it sounds like it's actually rather good! Spider-Man: Edge of Time was an awesome surprise, proving, much like Shattered Dimensions, that the best games are the ones that aren't based on a movie license. In fact, I would like to see a movie based on this game –

Will New Photos of Ashton and His Mistress Destroy His Marriage?

Posted: 05 Oct 2011 10:10 AM PDT

Explosive new photos show Ashton Kutcher with Sara Leal, the 23-year-old he allegedly slept with in San Diego on the weekend of his sixth wedding anniversary.

ashton-kutcher.jpg

According to Star Magazine and RadarOnline, the "Two and a Half Men" star was caught hanging with Leal and her pals inside the hotel's $2,500-a-night penthouse during the early morning hours of September 24. "Ashton's cheating ways" were uncovered, as the photos show Kutcher in his hotel bathroom with several ladies.

An eyewitness to the wild party, Megan McNutt, said there was "a hot tub involved," meaning, "there's going to be some action."

Like his "Men" character Walden Schmidt, the tabloid reported the 33-year-old paraded around the party naked. McNutt said, "Everyone was drunk. It was a good time."

Ashton and Demi: Not Tweeting is Such Sweet Sorrow

The partygoer said she saw the interest spark between Ashton and Sara, recalling, "I'm sure he saw her and was like, 'Damn, that girl's hot.' They definitely hooked up. There was definitely... um... sex involved."

The publication has also obtained photos of the fame-hungry Texas native at a different party kissing girls and drinking heavily.

Kutcher and Moore Reunite for Kabbalah

A source close to Sara revealed that the blonde was "always a party girl on the hunt for a rich man to pay her bills. She kind of throws herself at people."

Although Demi and Ashton have not addressed the speculation about a possible divorce in the near future, RadarOnline is reporting the Hollywood couple's marriage is over.

The two have reportedly decided to spend time apart, at Kutcher's suggestion. Another report claims the cheating rumors have taken a physical toll on Demi -- with her weight dropping to just 100 pounds.

Arthur Christmas Brings the Holiday Spirit to Sony Pictures Animation

Arthur Christmas brings the holiday spirit to Sony Pictures Animation

Being from Minnesota originally, I am no stranger to snow. However, I have never seen actual snow on the ground in Los Angeles until yesterday afternoon at the Sony Pictures Animation facility in Culver City, California. No, hell didn't freeze over or anything drastic like that, but actual snow on the ground was just a small part of the festivities for the studio's Arthur Christmas event. Despite all of the other kid-friendly activities like coloring and face painting, the children really seemed enamored with the snow. I guess that's kind of like getting a child a huge Christmas present... and then all they play with is the box.

I was invited to this event to watch the first 30 minutes of Arthur Christmas, which hits theaters on November 23. Before the footage, we were shown the new trailer, which debuted earlier today and gives you a good sense of what this movie is all about. Thankfully, this does not seem to be one of those movies where all the good stuff is found in the trailer, because I quite enjoyed the first half hour of Arthur Christmas.

The footage starts out just like the trailer does, with a young girl in England writing her letter to Santa Claus. The excerpt from the trailer makes it sound like any precocious child from any Christmas movie from any year, but this isn't quite the case. This version is very much the 21st Century version of a child's letter to Santa Claus, and it's actually pretty damn funny. The child rattles off a barrage of questions, some we've heard before ("Are you really real?"), some not so much ("If you really live on the North Pole, why can't I find your house on Google Earth?"), and it's a great way to get the movie started.

We then segue to the title character Arthur (James McAvoy), who is basically the black sheep of the family, despite his best intentions. After bouncing around in several different departments, Arthur seems to enjoy his new post in the Letters department, where he keeps track of all the letters children write to Arthur's father, Santa Claus (Jim Broadbent) himself. These first few minutes also show us how massive the scope of this high-tech North Pole really is. Hundreds upon hundreds of elves man computer stations, planning out every detail of Christmas Eve, and a gigantic spaceship-like craft (complete with a cloaking device) drops an army of rappelling elves down to deliver presents, although they only have 18.14 seconds per house to get the job done. While Santa is still there at every move, he is really just a symbol of the holiday, with the whole operation being run by Santa's eldest son, Steve (Hugh Laurie, whose voice you won't recognize at all if you're used to his House M.D. cadence), a high-tech guru who has aspirations of putting on the big red suit himself.

We take in a special holiday-themed event where we watched the first 30 minutes of this Christmas tale

Somehow, they manage to get the job done, despite a few close calls like a child waking up while Santa hides near the bed, but a glitch occurred in this fancy system: one child was actually missed, and, wait for it... yes, it is the little British girl who we saw at the very beginning. While Steve brushes it off, Arthur, who wants every single child's Christmas to be perfect, and is determined to deliver this one last present, even though there are only a few hours left before the sun rises. Enter the crotchety Grandsanta, voiced hilariously by Bill Nighy, who did things the old-fashioned way, you know, with a sleigh, reindeer and, of course, magic powder. Grandsanta persuades Arthur to partake in this mission and off they go to deliver the last Christmas present before the young girl wakes up and loses all her faith in the holiday.

I wasn't expecting to hate Arthur Christmas when I first walked onto the Sony lot, but I honestly wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. There were just as many young kids in attendance as there were adults, and it was interesting to hear the laughter coming in waves after both adult and kid jokes. Bill Nighy's Grandsanta looks to be quite the scene-stealer, and he delivers some wonderful bits, such as this gem when Arthur says their impending mission is impossible: "They used to say it was impossible to teach women to read." Priceless. They really do take your garden-variety animated holiday movie and turn it on its ear, putting a 21st Century spin on the fabled North Pole operation of Christmas, with plenty of adult fun sprinkled into this kid-friendly tale.

Arthur Christmas hits theaters on November 23, and if you're looking for a different kind of Christmas movie this holiday season (and the kids aren't old enough to watch Bad Santa yet), then this certainly seems like one to check out.

Arthur Christmas comes to theaters November 23rd, 2011 and stars James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Ashley Jensen, Imelda Staunton. The film is directed by Barry Cook, Sarah Smith.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol will hit IMAX theaters early on December 16

IMAX Corporation and Paramount Pictures today announced that Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol will begin previews in IMAX beginning Friday, Dec. 16 and playing through the film's run at the box office, which begins worldwide on Dec. 21, 2011. This marks the first time a domestic feature release has been released early in IMAX theatres and reinforces the event nature of this highly-anticipated film. Directed by Academy Award-winner Brad Bird, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Paula Patton.

Coupled with the early window of engagement, the IMAX release of this fourth installment of Mission: Impossible features approximately 30 minutes of scenes shot with IMAX cameras. These specific sequences will expand to fill the entire screen, exclusively in IMAX, and further immerse the audience in the explosive action and vast scope of the film. One featured sequence includes the unbelievable stunt performed by Tom Cruise as he scaled the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai, providing an up-close, you-are-there experience as only IMAX can.

"Brad Bird's Mission: Impossible will be among the highlights of the holiday movie season and we're very happy to share the film with audiences early in IMAX," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount Pictures.

"We believe that the early release of this blockbuster film, shot in part with IMAX cameras, will help generate extra buzz and incremental revenue for both IMAX and the box office overall," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Today's announcement highlights the confidence that both filmmakers and studios have in the ability of the IMAX platform to deliver an unparalleled movie-going experience and generate positive box office results, while showcasing IMAX's flexibility and scale."

"Paramount Pictures, Bad Robot and Tom Cruise continue to create innovative, event experiences for moviegoers and we're ecstatic that IMAX is a featured component of that event strategy by offering fans this IMAX preview of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "The sequences shot with IMAX cameras, coupled with the visionary storytelling of Brad Bird and incredible scope of this film will -- mark my words -- blow audiences away."

The IMAX release of Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
