As Spinner recently reported, Decemberists keyboard and accordion player Jenny Conlee was diagnosed with breast cancer. Now, after five months of treatment, the disease is in remission. The band's singer Colin Meloy broke the news on Twitter, writing, "For those of you wondering, saw Jenny this week; our girl's officially in remission! #teamjenny #beyondchemodome."

Back in May, the Decemberists broke the news of Conlee's unfortunate diagnosis on their website, but assured fans that the keyboardist's cancer was caught at an early stage. "And while the prognosis is very, very good for a full recovery," Meloy wrote, "tackling the disease will mean some intensive treatment for our Jenny as well as a lot of important recovery time."

COMICS: Teasers For Fantastic Four #600 & Journey Into Mystery; Avengers #18 Preview!

Posted: 21 Oct 2011 10:00 AM PDT

Thanks to Newsarama, we have the following preview of Avengers #18 as well as two teasers for November's Fantastic Four #600 and a mysterious new arc in January's Journey Into Mystery. Marvel seem to be teasing a lot of story arcs which aren't set to debut until next year, so whether any of these will be elaborated upon in the upcoming Point One one-shot is unclear. All we do know is that the Fantastic Four will clearly have their hands full in #600 (released next month) and after five consecutive teasers, we still have no indication whether Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, will indeed return. Norman Osborn and H.A.M.M.E.R. return! Witness the new Avengers line-up in action! J Mascis, Dum Dum Girls, and Still Corners Lead Soothing CMJ Sub Pop Showcase

Twenty years after leading the charge in the Grunge revolution, Sub Pop records is still going strong -- though based on Thursday night's Sub Pop CMJ showcase at Manhattan's Mercury Lounge, the venerable Seattle label has mellowed nicely with age. Massive waves of sludge and feedback were nowhere to be found, replaced by the rough-edged girl-group sounds of Xray Eyeballs and Dum Dum Girls and the ethereal dream pop of Memoryhouse and Still Corners (who also treated the packed house to a mind-altering projected light show).

Even "alternative nation" veteran J Mascis abandoned his usual wall of amplifiers in favor of a stripped-down acoustic set of solo material and Dinosaur Jr. classics, but the lack of roaring Marshall stacks only served to highlight his sheer virtuosity. Based on the intimidating amount of young talent on display here, there's little doubt that Sub Pop will be in top form in another 20 years.

Active Child Says 'F--- You' to Those Who Compare Him to James Blake

Active Child frontman Pat Grossi may have gotten a nice publicity bump when critics compared him to recent tourmate UK dubstep sensation James Blake, but the L.A.-based musician wants to be recognized for his own artistic merits.

"It's getting old for sure," Grossi tells Spinner. "I love his music and I respect him as an artist but when someone says that you sound like another artist, it's like, 'f--- you!'"

Grossi has since graduated to headlining his own tours which should help make a name for himself beyond the "sounds like so-and-so" tagline. Though playing Active Child's "pseudo-dubstep" live is something he's still getting used to. Grossi admits that shows were always an after-thought, something that took his attention away from his making masterpieces like his debut album, 'You Are All I See.'

"People started to respond to the music and then, all of a sudden, they were like, 'Oh, when are you playing a show?' And you're like, 'Oh, what? That's not part of the deal!'" says Grossi. "It's been an evolution to transfer everything I made into a live setting."

First 9 Minutes of ABC's Once Upon A Time

Posted: 21 Oct 2011 09:23 AM PDT

The interesting thing is that ABC optioned the Vertigo comic book "Fables" for it's own television series just a few years ago. A script was written by Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner, and it is still a mystery if a pilot was ever filmed. The story, like "Once Upon A Time" is about fairy tale characters set in modern times, and it too would've featured Snow White. Once Upon a Time premieres this Sunday, October 23rd at 8/7 central on ABC. Synopsis: "Once Upon a Time", from the inventive minds of "Lost" executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, is a bold new imagining of the world, where fairy tales and the modern-day are about to collide. And they all lived happily ever after – or so everyone was led to believe. Emma Swan knows how to take care of herself. She's a 28-year-old bail bonds collector who's been on her own
