'Encyclopedia Gothica' Brings Definition to Halloween Posted: 31 Oct 2011 02:00 PM PDT Filed under: News, Book Club Amazon.com Goth journalist, and sometime-Spinner scribe, Liisa Ladouceur recently released the 'Encyclopedia Gothica,' an astoundingly complete compendium of all things black and scary. Though the book extends far beyond Goth music, we've pulled together a special Halloween-themed collection of musical encyclopedic excerpts. Enjoy! (Mwa-ha-ha!) Horror Punk: Style of punk rock attributed to the Misfits and practiced by their clones in which almost every song is about a monster or other creepy character from a horror film or comic and features a spirited chorus of "whoa-oh-ohs!" Horror Punk rockers look quite a bit like Death Rockers (i.e. one can never have too many skull T-shirts), but the music is quite a bit goofier.

Director James Mangold On The Wolverine And Hugh Jackman Posted: 31 Oct 2011 09:04 AM PDT Source: MTV MTV News briefly spoke with Mangold about "The Wolverine" during an interview about the Blu-ray release of "Cop Land," and the director was more than up for discussing his work with Jackman on a Wolverine that's "more intense than we've ever seen him." "I was just really intrigued by the script and the project and the boldness of making a really personal Wolverine movie," Mangold said while assuring fans that the "serious action" is still very much there. "Can we talk about how lazy most journalists are?" keyboardist Tom Furse asks Spinner. "Because that's probably the reason everything you read is the same opening two or three paragraphs: 'Horrors turned up in 2007 with their shocking debut, 'Strange House' and then managed to do some sort of turn-around with their Geoff Barrow Portishead-produced 'Primary Colours.' It's exactly the same thing." "I personally think it's so documented and scrutinized because there's some understanding that we'll be very important in five years time," guitarist Josh Hayward laughs. "But I think a lot of journalists would feel uncomfortable having to express their own personal views. Having to put too much of themselves in the article."
