Bette Midler Responds to Twitter Feud with Lady Gaga

Posted: 28 Oct 2011 11:38 AM PDT

"Extra" host Maria Menounos caught up with the talented Bette Midler to talk about her fun fight with Lady Gaga over a certain mermaid costume.

bette-midler.jpg

"We had a feud, which I loved," laughed the Divine Miss M, who accused Mama Monster of copying her "mermaid in a wheelchair costume" in a recent tweet, writing, "You can keep the meat dress... mermaid's mine."

Bette explained to Menounos, "I'm not a good tweeter. I said a couple of things. I opened a can of worms." But Midler wasn't really mad. "I wasn't irked at all! I thought it was hilarious. I was actually very flattered, and then we sort of put it to rest."

Now Midler is auctioning off some of her more lavish costumes and memorabilia from her movies and stage shows, with proceeds going to help clean up the NYC's parks with her non-profit organization, New York Restoration Project.

She is even selling a rare ukulele, and gave another one to President Obama. "It's not for him; it's for his girls." Bette and the President are both from Hawaii.

Bruce Timm On Why You'll Never See A Green Arrow Or Aquaman Solo Animated Film

Posted: 28 Oct 2011 11:03 AM PDT

Source: Big Shiny Robot Speaking to Big Shiny Robot, the legendary Bruce Timm shared the following: Q: How involved were you in getting Lauren Faust for Super Best Friends Forever and the Aardman Batman shorts? TIMM: Oh, not at all. Q: Are you going to be working with them at all? TIMM: We've been talking with the producers on the DC Nation doing maybe possibly some stuff for them, but I've got to figure out a way to squeeze it into my schedule. Q: When you're looking for new projects that are within the DC Universe, is it difficult to deal with that wealth of riches that you have to choose from in the source material, or do you have a mental list of things that you say, "I'd really like to go back and do this if they gave me the opportunity." TIMM: It is kind of a broad question, and hopefully I can answer it in

George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards Headed To The Silver Screen

Posted: 28 Oct 2011 10:36 AM PDT

The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards is headed to the big screen. With the success of Game of Thrones it was inevitable that someone would pick up Wild Cards, the anthology co-written and co-created by Martin. Syfy Films, the theatrical division created in December 2010 as a joint venture between Syfy and Universal Pictures, has acquired the screen rights to Wild Cards, a superhero anthology edited, co-created and co-written by Martin. Melinda Snodgrass, one of the co-creators and co-writers, has been tapped to pen the screenplay for the project, which marks Syfy Films' first acquisition. Martin and Snodgrass will executive produce. Wild Cards is a series of books and stories set in a shared universe where an alien virus has been unleashed over New York City. Those who survived were turned into either a class of beings named Jokers, mostly deformed creatures, (or more rarely) Aces,

Relativity Media and Sky Land Team on 21 and Over

Posted: 28 Oct 2011 10:33 AM PDT

The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore to direct 21 and Over

Relativity Media's 21 and Over is the first project made and co-financed in partnership with Sky Land, the production and distribution entity run by Relativity Media, SAIF Partners and IDG China Media. This venture recently announced a strategic alliance with Huaxia Film Distribution Company, one of the official distribution agencies of the government.

The hilarious comedy, 21 and Over, stars an up-and-coming cast including Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin and Sarah Wright. The script was written and directed by successful comedy writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, whose writing credits include The Hangover. The film is about two childhood friends who drag their straight-arrow buddy out to celebrate his twenty-first birthday the night before an all-important medical school interview. But when one beer leads to another, the evening spirals into a wild epic misadventure of debauchery and mayhem that none of them will ever forget.

Joining Mandeville Films' David Hoberman (The Fighter) and Todd Lieberman (The Fighter), are producers on the film, Andy Yan of SAIF and Hugo Shong of IDG. The Relativity and Sky Land production is being made in association with Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Produced (Limitless). In addition to previous footage shot in Seattle, Washington, filming locations include Linyi, a city in the south of Shandong province. Principal photography on scenes in China began shooting in Linyi on October 26, 2011.

Party Secretary of Linyi Municipal Committee of the Chinese Party of Communism (CPC), Zhang Shajun, whose position is directly above the Mayor, said "Linyi is a beautiful city and we welcome international filmmakers to come to Linyi to make beautiful worldwide films, and particularly welcome my good friend Ryan Kavanaugh and his great company Relativity to be shooting in our historic city. We promise to provide the best service possible in order to help make the movie successful worldwide."

This will mark the first of many projects that Relativity plans to shoot and do post-production work on in China.

Tucker Tooley, Relativity's Co-President said, "We are delighted that Sky Land have come immediately aboard as a partner. They loved this hysterical film and it's gratifying they want to build a foundation immediately alongside our cast and crew. We are very much looking forward to shooting in China, especially in a place as amazing as Linyi".

Sky Land is a fully funded, vertically integrated film and multimedia production, distribution and financing company. It was previously jointly owned and controlled by SAIF Partners, a leading Asian Private Equity Firm, and IDG China Media, a China-focused investment arm of Boston-headquartered International Data Group.

Relativity Media joined as an equal owner as part of their new endeavor and business plan to develop, produce, distribute and acquire Chinese material that also possesses worldwide appeal. The strategic alliance announced with Huaxia makes this joint venture the first and only government sanctioned pact. Huaxia is the largest distributor of film in China and one of the most respected film companies in the country releasing such titles as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1, the Harry Potter franchise, Transformers, Kung Fu Panda, Fast Five, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, 2012, Alice in Wonderland and Sherlock Holmes.

Sky Land also oversees and is partnered with a China-based RMB fund to co-invest in local film and television content and production, which is the equivalent of $100 million US dollars. Most recently, it co-produced Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, inspired by the worldwide best-selling novel by Lisa See, with screenplay penned by Academy Award&#174 winning writer Ronald Bass (Amelia) and directed by Wayne Wang (A Thousand Years of Good Prayers).

21 and Over comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Miles Teller, Justin Chon, Skylar Astin, Sarah Wright. The film is directed by Jon Lucas, Scott Moore.

Was Ruth Madoff Suicide Story a Lie for Damage Control?

Posted: 28 Oct 2011 11:06 AM PDT

Ruth Madoff recently said she and husband Bernie tried to commit suicide on Christmas Eve over the $60-billion scandal that rocked the financial world.

The most hated woman in New York told "60 Minutes" (airing Sunday) that she and Bernie swallowed a bunch of pills, even though Bernie told the NY Times earlier this year, "I never thought of taking my life, it's just not the way I am."

Their conflicting stories are causing speculation that Ruth was in on the Ponzi scheme, and was using the suicide angle as a way to get some sympathy... or to help her daughter-in-law sell books.

She recalled the day Bernie had decided to come clean, saying, "I was kind of paralyzed. Bernie got up and said, 'I'm going back to the office.'"

In the candid sit-down, Ruth, 70, said it was difficult to remember "every detail" of that fateful day. "I sort of blank now, I'm not hedging here, I don't, I just simply don't remember every detail. I was in such a state."

She also said they attended their company Christmas party that same evening, "so I got myself together and went over there. We stayed for a half an hour. And we just went home. And the next morning, the FBI was there to arrest him at 7:00 AM."

Larry King recently spoke out about Madoff's "60 Minutes" appearance, noting her daughter-in-law Stephanie Madoff Mack's new tell-all about the suicide of husband Mark Madoff, saying, "If you're gonna sell a book, you're gonna go the the NY Times and '60 Minutes.'"

Bernie and Ruth Attempt Suicide

When Ruth last saw Bernie in prison almost a year ago, shortly after Mark's death, she told her husband it would be her last visit, and said her final goodbye.

bernie-madoff.jpg

Bernie, 73, gave a two-hour interview on Oct. 14 to Barbara Walters (no cameras were allowed), and recounted that last moment with his wife. "[Ruth] asked me to let her go, which I understood. Ruth doesn't hate me. She has no one. It's not fair to her. She lost her first son."

Kick-Ass 2 Is "About To Be Announced" And Mark Millar Has Plans For TV Shows!

Posted: 28 Oct 2011 10:32 AM PDT

It must be good to be Mark Millar right now. Both he and The Ultimates' artist Bryan Hitch were credited at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger (the same honor is expected for The Avengers too) and the past few weeks have seen announcement after announcement of his various creator owned comic books heading to the big screen. Well, in the same announcement of the formation of "Millarworld Productions", I noticed the following excerpt which seemingly confirms the forthcoming announcement of Kick-Ass. Mark's sequel to 2010's Kick-Ass is about to be announced and Top Gun director Tony Scott will make Nemesis — about a criminal mastermind who wreaks havoc on police chiefs around the world — which Millar released as a graphic novel last year. And in even more interesting news, the paper reveals that the prolific comic book writer also has plans to launch projects on the small screen through
