Zooey Deschanel Knocks the National Anthem Out of the Park at the World Series

As Zooey Deschanel took to center-field in Arlington, Texas on Sunday night, you could hear the skepticism of Rangers fans begin to take hold. Dressed as one part girl-next-door and one part wedding cake, the singer clumsily heeled her way past home plate for an a cappella rendition of the National Anthem.

And from note number one, she nailed every freakin' part.

Deschanel is currently working on her Fox television show 'New Girl,' in which she plays everyone's favorite MPDG, Jess. Even though the show's hilarious antics are shining light on Deschanel's comedic talents, it was last night's performance that probably solidified the She and Him frontwoman as America's new "it" girl, as she roused millions at home with some exemplary patriotism.

Eddie Murphy on Hosting Oscars, 'SNL' and 'Tower Heist'

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 10:59 AM PDT

When funnyman Eddie Murphy sat down with "Extra's" AJ Calloway in NYC, he began with an announcement. "I used to run Manhattan before it went all Hip-Hop. It used to be my town, Jay-Z! Now I've gone Hollywood."

eddie-murphy.jpg

Murphy, 50, will host next year's Academy Awards for the first time, and said he is not planning to include any stand-up (referencing his infamous 1987 stand-up, "Raw," in which he wore a purple leather outfit), telling AJ, "It is not gonna be 'Raw' and if it were, people would be like, 'This is the worst Oscars ever! This is supposed to be about the Oscars... he's up there in that leather suit talkin' all that sh**!'"

The actor vowed he plans to be "a classy, funny host."

The busy star is reportedly planning to return to his old stomping grounds at "Saturday Night Live," and said he would consider bringing back some of his most memorable characters. "It's not like I have all these new characters to unleash on the public," Eddie pointed out. He joked, "Wait till they see my new character, Mr. Willie!"

Murphy stars alongside Ben Stiller in his latest project, "Tower Heist," a comedy about a group of Ponzi scheme victims wanting revenge, who attempt to rob the mastermind's high-rise home.

Stiller spoke about the difficult shooting conditions while they filmed in Manhattan, saying, "The first two months [of production] we were outside and the weather was amazing. Then the second two months was the worst winter on the East Coast in like 150 years."

"Tower Heist" breaks into theaters Nov. 4.

'SNL' Star Darrell Hammond Reveals Addiction in New Book

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 10:47 AM PDT

"Saturday Night Live" alum Darrell Hammond has written a new memoir in which he reveals his battle with substance abuse -- and once being taken away from the "SNL" studios in a straitjacket.

darrell-hammond.jpg

In his book, "God If You're Not Up There, I'm F--ked," Hammond -- who was best known on the show for impersonating Donald Trump, President Bill Clinton and a raunchy Sean Connery -- reveals that his cocaine addiction began in 2002, and in 2009 he tried crack, quickly switching his habit.

Hammond made 270 appearances on "SNL" over 14 seasons, the most of any cast member.

He wrote, "I kept a pint of Remy in my desk at work. The drinking calmed my nerves and quieted the disturbing images that sprang into my head ... when drinking didn't work, I cut myself."

The master mimic also says he was once taken from the NBC studios "in a straitjacket," and that when his wife came to visit him at New York Hospital, "I didn't recognize her."

Hammond hasn't yet heard what his former "SNL" co-workers think about the book. "I don't have anything bad to say about anyone there," he told the New York Post. "They all really went above and beyond the call for me."

After recently beating his drug addiction, Hammond starred this summer as Truman Capote in the one-man play, "Tru." He's also involved in Will Ferrell's Funny or Die website.

Hannover House is a full-service entertainment distribution company, with direct relationships with all major theatrical exhibition circuits. The company also operates its own home video division, and on selected titles, has partnered with 20th Century Fox Home Video, Inc.

The Avengers Was Not Shot on an iPhone

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 09:58 AM PDT

Parts of The Avengers were not shot using an iPhone

Last week, we reported The Avengers cinematographer Seamus McGarvey used an iPhone to shoot certain scenes in the big-budget superhero tale. It seems the director of photography was misquoted, and clarified what he meant in a recent interview. Take a look at what he had to say below.

"I was talking about how up and coming film makers have access to a whole range of new technologies which expand our options as filmmakers. I mentioned that the iPhone and the Canon 5d Mk2 were devices currently used on many Hollywood productions. I used the Canon on some shots on Marvel's The Avengers movie. Unfortunately, this was edited to read that I shot some of the film with the iPhone. This is not true."

Walt Disney Pictures, which is distributing The Avengers, also confirmed that no shots were filmed using an iPhone on the superhero ensemble. The outlet which originally ran the Seamus McGarvey interview, Irish Film and Television Network, did not respond to the allegations of misquoting, but they did remove The Avengers remark from their interview.

The Avengers comes to theaters May 4th, 2012 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Cobie Smulders, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

EDITORIAL: Why A Green Lantern Sequel Deserves A Chance

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 10:10 AM PDT

Martin Campbell's Green Lantern isn't very popular here on CBM. I mean it's not very popular in many places because it's simply not a very good movie, but here I think we all felt that sting of disappointment a little more. We really wanted to see DC launch another great franchise that didn't have the words "Bat" or "Super" in it. I remember reading the first batch of 2 and even 1 star reviews prior to seeing it for myself and really hoping that they were wrong. When I did see it, I thought they were. For about the first 40-45 minutes I really enjoyed Green Lantern. I mean it wasn't particularly great, but I remember thinking that the reviews were very harsh and if it maintained the level of quality we would have an entertaining enough but underwhelming movie on our hands akin to Marvel's Iron Man 2. But it

Scott Baio to star in Daddy's Home

Scott Baio, who rose to fame on Happy Days, starred in one of the highest rated syndicated sitcoms in television history with Charles in Charge, got back to his roots with Arrested Development, and then starred in the popular reality series Scott Baio Is 45... And Single, is bringing it full circle with a starring role on the new Nickelodeon "Nick at Night" comedy series Daddy's Home.

Scott Baio will star as David Hobbs, a former sitcom actor coming off a popular family show where he starred as America's most beloved dad. He decides to become a stay-at-home father so that his wife, a soap opera actress, can return to the spotlight.

The series was created by Little House on the Prairie actor Patrick Labyorteaux and Tina Albanese. Both will executive produce the series alongside Scott Baio.

About the show, Scott Baio stated the following.
